Peter let out a small smile. “Katherine… who exactly do you think is worthy of me? Let me guess… yourself? Are you talking about you? Because, if I remember correctly, I asked you countless times to leave your boring husband and run away with me… but you never did. So why should 1 Usten to anything you have to say now?” he said, irritation creeping into his voice.
“You’re right! You shouldn’t listen to me… but that doesn’nean I can’t give my opinion.”
“You’re the mother of my son–one I didn’t know I had, one I still don’t fully understand how I ended up with. But today, he’s here with me, and from what I’ve been told, he has been for almost six years. That’s why you’re in my life. But you are not my concern.”

“No. And for the sake of our son, we’re going to pretend everything is fine. We’re going to let Alden and his fiancée have a happy, peaceful wedding. And after that, I expect you to stay as far away from me and my future wife as you have all these years.”
“I have no interest in you or your dear Celeste. I just wanted to ask you to cancel the pension and let you know I’ll be returning every last cent you gave me. As for the rest… take it as simple curiosity about a man I once had something with.”

Peter stood up, signaling that their conversation was over.

Peter froze. He didn’t respond to the kiss, didn’t move. Katherine simply smiled at his reaction and said:
