Chapter 13 

Baldrick’s heart ached unbearably, and he could no longer hold back his emotions, finally voicing the feelings he had suppressed for so long. 

Nancy listened to Baldrick’s confession, but her laughter carried an indescribable irony. “So, Baldrick, would you marry me then?” 

“I would, in a heartbeat, if you’d give me the chance!” Baldrick’s eyes sparkled with joy, yet his face looked 

serious. 

“Nancy, I met you first. I wanted to confess to you back in college. Thankfully, it’s not too late. I promise I won’t let you down.” 

“Really? But Cyrus had broken his promises. What makes you think you won’t?” Nancy reached out again, grabbing Baldrick’s wrist with a firm tug. “Do you think you’re particularly passionate, Baldrick? If you were, you’d have confessed in college. But you weighed your options and loved yourself more.” 

“So, stop pretending. Maybe you do like me. After all, I’m not completely oblivious. But more than liking me, Baldrick, you love power more! 

With that, Nancy opened the car door and stepped out. 

“Thank you for your feelings, Baldrick, but it just can’t work between us. You’ll find someone who truly matches your heart,” Nancy said, looking back at Baldrick seated in the car. Then, without lingering, she walked away, intending to leave Sunhaven and Cyrus behind for good in a matter of days. 

Watching Nancy walk away, Baldrick suddenly snapped back to reality, his voice rising. “Nancy, rejecting me is your right, but pursuing you is mine!” He was adamant about not giving up on Nancy. 

Nancy heard him, but she didn’t stop. She kept walking, vanishing into the night. 

Baldrick remained in the car, his heart bitter but his determination unwavering. He wouldn’t give up on Nancy Cyrus was not worthy of her. 

In the bar’s private room, Norton and his group watched Cyrus, whose mood was dark and stormy, so much so that they dared not even breathe too loudly, considering the broken beer bottles scattered on the floor. They had hoped to separate Cyrus and Baldrick, but Norton scratched his head, regretting even setting up this gathering. 

With tears in her eyes, Hayley gently touched Cyrus‘ cheek. “Does it hurt, Cyrus?” 

Cyrus paused, looking down at Hayley’s tearful face. He then thought of Nancy’s coldness toward him and Baldrick’s evident desire for her. Suddenly, he grabbed Hayley, kissing her fiercely. 

Caught off guard, Hayley responded eagerly to him until she gasped for breath. Cyrus then released her, turning to Norton. “Don’t let someone as insignificant as Baldrick ruin our night. The Robertson family isn’t short of bastards. Get the party started.” 

Norton nodded vigorously, understanding the command. 

Cyrus narrowed his eyes dangerously. He wanted to see if Baldrick could secure his place in the Robertson family. If Baldrick dared to challenge him, Cyrus would make sure he paid a heavy price. 

⚫ After leaving, Nancy took a taxi home, where she soon fell ill with a high fever, drifting into unconsciousness. In 

her dreams, she was back ten years ago when she was fifteen and briefly lived with her aunt and uncle.
