Cyrus had trampled on her heart as if it were nothing but a piece of trash on the street.
He had completely and utterly crushed it!
Nancy cursed inwardly, ‘Cyrus, you don’t deserve anyone’s sincerity
Nancy forced herself to stay calm, clenching her fists so tightly that her nails dug into her palms, yet she didn’t even notice the pain.
Her phone, lying on the floor, buzzed again.
Nancy quickly grabbed it, half–expecting another message from Hayley, but it was a text from the identity cancellation department.
[Ms. Gonzalez, don’t forget to drop off your paperwork at the office in two days. If you don’t, the cancellation process might get delayed.]
Nancy took a deep breath, her eyes shimmering with sharpness and determination. Just a little longer, just a few more days, until she could leave Cyrus behind for good, never having to see that hypocrite again.
After spending two days in the hospital, Nancy hadn’t seen Cyrus once. However, Hayley constantly updated on what Cyrus was up to cooking meals or basking in the sun. Busy with life, he couldn’t bother with anything
else.
Nancy ensured she was the first at the police station to hand in her identity cancellation form.
Alexis, the officer processing her paperwork, said, “Ms. Gonzalez, now that you’ve submitted your application, the process should move along more quickly. I’ll contact you if we need anything else.”
“Thank you. I appreciate it,” Nancy replied before standing up and walking out.
When standing at the police station’s entrance, the sun warmed Nancy, making her feel a bit more hopeful. Just a little bit longer, and she would be free.
But as Nancy was about to leave, a surprised voice called out, “Mrs. Gordon, what are you doing here?”
Nancy turned to see Caleb, Cyrus‘ assistant, stepping out of a car, a look of urgency on his face.
Nancy raised an eyebrow, suddenly feeling a sense of foreboding. “What happened to Cyrus? Spit it out.”
Caleb didn’t dare hide anything, explaining, “Mr. Gordon got into a fight and detained. The lawyer’s gone in for the bail. He should be out soon.”
Seriously? Cyrus got into a fight, huh? Since their engagement, he had never laid a finger on anyone. Did this sudden altercation have something to do with Hayley?
Before Nancy could fully sort through her thoughts, an angry voice cut through them.
“What the hell does the Weaver Group think they are? Jack Weaver dares to lay a hand on my people? Tell everyone I’ll blacklist the Weaver family!”
Cyrus stormed out with fury written all over his face. Hayley followed him, her eyes still puffy from crying.
“Cyrus, thank you for rushing in to save me. I can’t imagine what would have happened if you hadn’t…
Her words got cut off.
“Mr. Gordon, Mrs. Gordon’s here, too!” Caleb suddenly shouted.
Hayley stopped mid–sentence, and even Cyrus‘ expression changed instantly.
Looking down, he saw Nancy standing at the bottom of the steps, her expression indifferent.

Cyrus felt his heart race, but he quickly regained his composure and approached Nancy.
His voice was deep, tinged with a hint of grievance and probing. “Nancy, what are you doing here? I was in a fight, and my hands are all bruised and hurting.”
