Chapter 245
As soon as Michael made his unexpected entrance, the room fell into a stunned silence. Nancy, ever the picture of calm, simply pressed her lips together in a thoughtful manner, clearly mulling something over. Unlike Nancy, Eugene was completely flabbergasted. “Mr. Ferguson, what are you doing here?” he blurted out.
Standing on the staircase, Michael wore a mischievous grin, his gaze casually flicking towards Judson, who was partially concealed behind a column.
Their eyes met, and Michael’s grin widened with a playful malice. “If you can be here, why can’t I?” he teased.
Eugene’s expression changed instantly, and he stammered, “Mr. Ferguson, that’s not what I meant.”
Despite being younger, Michael’s status in their social circle was second only to Evergreen Global. His reputation for ruthless and brutal tactics was well–known. Nobody wanted to provoke someone who could turn on them at a moment’s notice.
“Glad to hear it. Now, why don’t you get back to your chat with Lena?” Michael suggested, feigning
benevolence.
Eugene was speechless. Who would dare continue talking to Lena now? Anyone with half a brain could see that Michael’s presence had everything to do with her.
Quickly regaining his composure, Eugene made his excuses, “I just remembered something I need to do, so I’ll be leaving now.”
Before Nancy could respond, Eugene beat a hasty retreat, as if Nancy were some kind of terrifying beast.
Nancy’s fingers hesitated momentarily, but before she could pull her gaze away, Michael spoke up with a chuckle, “Don’t let someone like him ruin your mood, right, Miss Lena?”
Nancy’s expression remained unchanged. “You’re right.”
“Lena, just ignore that show–off,” Ramona interjected, taking Nancy’s hand. “We should continue our discussion with Ms. Gaye. Let’s not let this little hiccup spoil our evening.”
“Absolutely,” Gaye chimed in, eager to change the subject. “Let me introduce you to some other investors.”
Nancy nodded quickly. “Thank you, Ms. Gaye.”
The room soon buzzed with activity again, but this time, nobody dared to approach Nancy inappropriately. While her exact relationship with Michael remained unclear, his intervention was enough to suggest it was significant. Nancy was clearly not someone to be trifled with.
Meanwhile, up on the second floor, Michael looked over at Judson, whose face was a mask of displeasure. “Judson, are you frustrated because you can’t stand up for your sister–in–law?” Michael taunted.
Judson’s eyes darkened, clearly irritated by the jab. “You looking for trouble?”
“Just kidding,” Michael replied, backing off with a knowing smile. He was aware that Judson wouldn’t hesitate to charge in if Eugene had made any wrong move towards Nancy.
Judson was notoriously possessive; everyone knew that.
Thinking of this, Michael’s eyes narrowed with a dangerous glint. “Judson, should we take care of Eugene?”
Judson raised an eyebrow. “If we deal with Eugene now, who’s going to torment Sarah?”
Michael’s fingers paused mid–air as he realized the point. His voice turned mocking. “So Louis’s claim of being overprotective is just a sham. When it comes to their own interests, Sarah would be the first to be sacrificed, even though she started this mess.”
In the world of the elite, genuine feelings were rare; it was all about weighing benefits.
Judson didn’t respond to Michael’s musings, his expression unreadable.

Just then, Michael’s phone rang. Seeing the caller ID, he quickly answered, “Speak.”
“Mr. Ferguson, Sarah was taken by Mr. Buchanan’s people…”
Michael’s face darkened instantly. Instinctively, he looked at Judson, who had clearly overheard.
Judson sneered. “I knew Malcolm wouldn’t stay quiet.”
“The number you have dialed is currently unreachable. Please try again later…”
Eugene listened to the automated message from his phone and cursed under his breath. “Damn it, Sarah, you little brat! Ignoring my calls, huh? Just wait till you marry me, then you’ll see what happens!”
Still fuming, he headed toward his car, but before he could get in…
