Chapter 45

The doctor noticed the confusion on Nancy’s face and quickly reassured her, “Ms. Gonzalez, don’t worry. Your husband’s concussion will heal, and the shadows on his brain scan should clear up. He could regain his full memory in no more than six months.”

Nancy grew even more silent. Six months to regain memory!

Finally, she said, “Doctor, I’m not his wife. I found him injured on the street. Please, you need to call the police and find his family.”

“You’re not his wife, yet he was holding your hand so tightly when he was unconscious that it took us a while to pry it open.”

The doctor chuckled in disbelief, “Ms. Gonzalez, you can’t just abandon him because he’s injured. Please, go and handle the bill. I have other patients to see.”

With that, the doctor left, leaving Nancy to frown deeply. Just then, her phone rang.

Seeing the caller ID, she quickly answered.

Winnie’s voice exploded through the phone almost instantly. “Lena, why aren’t you at the studio yet? Everyone’s waiting, even the vice president, who’s hardly ever around, is here. Come on, hurry up!”

‘I’ll be right there.” Nancy hung up, casting one last look at Judson, who lay unconscious on the hospital bed, his face pale and contorted in pain.

Sighing deeply, Nancy paid for Judson’s medical expenses for the next two weeks and left. She felt she had done her moral duty. Judson’s fate was in his hands.

An hour later, Nancy reached the studio’s entrance when a vibrant red figure enthusiastically rushed toward

her.

“My dearest boss, my dearest Lena, welcome back!”

As the words settled, a shower of pink confetti fell around them.

Nancy embraced Winnie, who had pounced on her. And she looked at the employees holding confetti cannons.

The employees all smiled, saying, “Lena, welcome back to your post!”

Nancy smiled softly, “Yeah, I’m back. Now, we can shoulder the battles ahead together.”

Her studio’s team was small but mighty.

Upon hearing her, everyone cheered, “Lena, you said it! If you try to leave us behind and go back to your country. again, we won’t stand for it.”

Nancy smiled again, affirming their words. This time, she wouldn’t make the same mistakes. After all, men might betray her, but her career never would.

Just then, a man with golden hair and blue eyes approached, the epitome of beauty. His deep–set features and tall nose, especially those ocean–blue eyes, seemed clearer than the sea itself.

“Lena, seeing you in the studio today, I’m still wondering if I’m dreaming,” Orlando said, his gaze intense and undisguised.

Nancy raised an eyebrow, ready to reply, when Winnie cut in, standing tall with a big grin, “Don’t worry, you’re not dreaming. I can even feel Lena’s warmth!”
