Nancy didn’t let the mood dip and chuckled, “Alright, let’s get me up to speed with work first. Winnie, come in with me and fill me in on the year’s happenings,”
Winnie nodded emphatically. “Sure, it’s perfect timing. A huge networking event is coming up in Ardenweald. Let’s go to the office and discuss the details.”
It was indeed the best time for Nancy to return. She might have been a bit nervous initially, but with the boss herself stepping in, there was no issue!
As Nancy and Winnie walked away, Orlando stood motionless, his lips slightly pursed, his eyes concealing a depth that was hard to read.
The door closed with a bang.
“Boss, here’s the financial report for the year, along with documents from our collaborations with various shows.” Winnie placed the files on Nancy’s desk and continued to report on upcoming collaborations.
Toward the end, Winnie’s expression turned sour, “Lena, you being away from the studio for a year gave Susan an edge. She’s been our underdog, and now, she’s snatched several big deals from us, even the Whispering Show.”
Nancy squinted thoughtfully. Susan, one of her rivals in Ardenweald these past years, was average in design but a master manipulator in business.
“Lena, now that you’re back, we’ll rock the NY Jewelry Networking Event in seven days! If we can clinch the top spot, we can directly partner with NY, a subsidiary of Evergreen Global!”
Evergreen Global was the biggest conglomerate in Ardenweald. It was located in the most bustling area, towering with 188 floors, globally known as Evergreen Global.
Its opulence was unimaginable, rumored to hold the economic lifelines of Ardenweald, dominating collaborations in various sectors.
A spark flashed in Nancy’s eyes, visibly excited by Winnie’s words.
“Lena, partnering with NY could skyrocket your studio from top–tier to elite!” Winnie’s face was serious. “I never supported your marriage. Anyone who expects you to give up your talent for a domestic life clearly doesn’t appreciate your career. Lena, it’s been a year. It’s time to take back what’s yours.”
Nancy’s gaze dropped as Winnie’s words echoed about reclaiming her rightful place. Yes, it was time to reach for her professional zenith again.
While lifting her gaze to Winnie, her voice was resolute, “You’re right. We will win this!”
“That’s the spirit. That’s the Lena I know!” Winnie beamed and added, “I’ll leave you to it, then. Best get started.” Turning, Winnie left the room, and the door closed softly behind her.
Nancy sat silently, stood, and walked over to her safe, opening it.
She pulled out a stack of documents, among them an unfinished design. Looking at the half–drawn rose crown, she read the note attached. “Life has its moments, and I live for those moments. I’m betting on Cyrus‘ love for Nancy.”
Nancy pursed her lips, recalling Cyrus‘ angry demand. “Nancy, if you don’t apologize to Hayley, we’re getting a divorce.”
What a pity Nancy had bet wrong, forgetting sincerity would change in the blink of an eye. But one must have the strength to move on. Cyrus and Hayley were in the past.
Nancy ripped off the note and took another look at the unfinished design.
Chapter 46
Suddenly, her phone rang. Without looking. Nancy answered, “Hello?”
Before she could finish, a panicked voice came through, “Help! Ms. Gonzalez, you need to come quickly. Your husband’s gone mad!”
Nancy was momentarily confused. “What?”
“I’m calling from the hospital. Your husband Judson insists on seeing you immediately. He’s threatening to jump off the building if he can’t see you!”
