Chapter 70
Judson caught the glint of real anger in Nancy’s eyes and quickly grabbed her hand. “Nancy, come on. It didn’t hurt that bad. I promise I won’t do it again. Please, don’t be mad, okay?”
Nancy looked back at him, her bright eyes brimming with an undeniable concern he couldn’t hide. For some reason, Nancy felt this unsettling feeling in her chest, a bitterness she couldn’t quite place.
“Let’s put some ice on that,” Nancy said, pushing an ice pack into Judson’s hand.
For his part, Judson obediently held the ice against his hand, sitting quietly beside Nancy, silent, his deep gaze seemingly lost in thought.
Meanwhile, it was well past midnight in Sunhaven.
Cyrus knocked back drinks in the bar as if his life depended on it, an air of desperation about him.
The atmosphere in the private booth was eerily quiet, with everyone casting uneasy glances toward Norton.
Feeling the tension, Norton approached Cyrus. “Cyrus, we get that you’re upset about Nancy leaving home these days, but this isn’t the way, man. You can’t just drink yourself into oblivion.”
“Leaving home?” Cyrus‘ hand paused mid–air, holding his drink. Memories seemed to flood back, his eyes reddening, and he hurled his glass against the wall furiously.
Crash! The glass shattered upon impact, echoing through the silent room.
Cyrus roared hysterically, “Who told you Nancy just left home?”
The others shrank back, their apprehension growing in the face of Cyrus‘ outburst.
Norton’s heart raced uncontrollably, unable to calm himself. “Cyrus, what do you mean? If Nancy didn’t leave,, what happened? She didn’t disappear or something worse, did she?”
“Disappear? Something worse?” Cyrus let out a bitter laugh.
The only thing echoing in his mind was Alexis‘ words. “Mr. Gordon, weren’t you aware that Ms. Gonzalez had deregistered her identity? She told me you knew.”
Cyrus struggled to maintain his composure, frustration boiling over as he angrily swept all the bottles off the table. Whether it was the alcohol hitting his brain or the shock of Nancy deregistering her identity, Cyrus was losing it.
“Nancy, how could you be so cruel to me? Deregistering your identity, you planned on leaving me right from the
start…”
No wonder he couldn’t find her. No wonder Nancy had vanished without a trace. So, Nancy had left without the
intention of returning to him.
“Why? Why would you do this…” Cyrus clutched his head in despair. “All over an apology? Is it worth it?”
Why was Nancy being so merciless? Was she the person who loved him more than anyone else? Cyrus‘ words hit the room like a depth charge, breaking the silence and causing a ripple of shock.
Everyone was stunned. Nancy hadn’t just left home, but she had deregistered her identity! It was clear that she didn’t want Cyrus to find her.
The revelation hung heavy in the air, leaving everyone speechless.
They had all witnessed Cyrus’s countless proposals to Nancy and the struggle he faced between her and Hayley. But no one had imagined that Nancy would take such a drastic and heart–wrenching step.
Norton couldn’t believe his ears, murmuring, “Cyrus, you’re joking, right? Nancy couldn’t deregister her identity…”

Cyrus replied with sarcasm, “I wish it were a joke.”

But the harsh reality was far from it.
Grabbing another bottle, Cyrus resumed his desperate drinking.
Initially wanting to intervene, the others stood back, realizing the depth of Cyrus‘ turmoil.
Watching Cyrus drown his sorrows, Norton finally snapped out of his daze, a rush of excitement overcoming
him.
Deregistering her identity! Nancy’s definitive departure meant she would never return to Cyrus. Did that mean he had a chance?
