Chapter 8
I soon recovered completely, and we began planning the wedding again.
However, I hadn’t expected that on our wedding day, Edward, who should have been in prison, would appear at the venue,
In just one month, he seemed to have aged ten years, still wearing his familiar prison uniform–clearly just escaped.
The wedding guests all avoided him, while only Edward’s parents‘ faces were filled with panic and helplessness.
I instantly understood Edward’s prison break was his parents‘ doing.
iam glared fiercely at his brother, “You two are really bold!”
Having broken the law, the elderly couple dared not speak anymore, repeatedly urging security to take Edward away.
But Edward refused to leave. He fell to his knees with reddened eyes, saying, “Carol, I wronged you before, and I’ll accept whatever pozitimes you give me. But Emily is innocent. She’s carrying my child–please, can you spare her?”
I snorted coldly, “Edward, she brought this on herself. The police will handle it – what does it have to do with me?”
Seeing I was determined not to help Emily, Edward crawled before me, kowtowing, “Carol, I was wrong, I’m kowtowing to you, alright? After that incident was posted online, Emily became the target of cyberbullying overnight. She’s suffered severe psychological trauma–if this continues, it w affect our baby,
“Please, Carol, for the sake of your future nephew, make them stop.”
As he spoke, Emily appeared at the wedding hall entrance in a red dress, her hair disheveled, pointing at the guests, “What are you looking at? I’m already part of the family, carrying their child. If you disrespect me, watch out – I’ll have people deal with you! Bunch of blind lackeys”
Seeing this, Edward quickly pulled her into his arms, gently stroking her belly, “Why did you come here instead of resting at home?”
Emily sobbed, wrapping her arms around Edward’s neck, “Brother Ed, the baby moved. He said he misses daddy and wanted me to bring him to find you.
Watching their display of marital affection made my eyes hurt. I immediately called security to escort them out.
Bug Emily suddenly knelt before me, saying frantically, “aunt, I was wrong. Please don’t let them bully me anymore? The baby keeps telling me he’s- shred. Listen, he’s crying again…”
Emily’s mental state was clearly disturbed, her words making no sense, causing the guests to snicker and mock.
Edward’s parents, feeling embarrassed, ordered their son to take this mad woman away.
But Edward wanted one last chance. He crawled to William, clutching his trouser leg, “Uncle, I know you’re kind hearted. Emily has already been punished–if this continues, she’ll really die.
“I beg you, please spare her. Uncle, for your future nephew’s sake, please remove those trending topics.”
William kicked Edward away, looking down at him coldly, “First, I didn’t create those trending topics – their removal isn’t up to me.
“Second, Edward, you’ve been fooled into being a backup plan for two months, yet you’re still shamelessly trying to be another man’s child’s father?”
At these words, Edward froze, looking incredulously between William, me, and Emily’s belly.
Several minutes later, he finally reacted, stammering, “Un uncle, what do you mean?”
“Foot See for yourself!”
William threw a stack of paternity test results in Edward’s face,
With each page Edward turned, his shoulders shook more violently.
He grabbed Emily’s neck, eyes blazing red as he demanded, “You whore, tell me whose child you’re really carrying?!”

Emily seemed completely unable to understand Edward’s words, just blankly holding his hand, smiling foolishly, “Brother Ed, are you done? Can you take me to find the baby’s daddy?”
This enraged Edward further, and he kicked Emily to the ground, “You bitch, you deceived me so cruelly!”
Edward’s eyes were red with tears as he turned to grab my dress hem, saying regretfully, “Carol, I know anything I say now is too late, but I still want to try one more time.
“You must have heard that day – Uncle is marrying his true love. Please don’t marry him? Give me another chance, I promise to change and treat you as well as I did before.”
I couldn’t believe that even now, Edward thought we might get back together.
Looking at the hope flickering in his eyes, I sneered, “Edward, you’re an ex–convict – what makes you think you’re worthy of me?”
The venue fell silent for several seconds before Edward’s face reddened with anger as he laughed bitterly, “Caroline, you know my uncle is marrying his true love – are you really so cheap? Eagerly offering yourself as a replacement?”
SLAP! I struck Edward’s face hard, “Listen well, Edward – I AM William’s true love. Spread any more rumors and I’ll tear your mouth apart.”
William wrapped an arm around my waist, smiling, “Carol, shall we proceed with our wedding now?”
Taking William’s arm, I turned to walk toward the wedding altar.
Then, remembering something, I turned back and dialed 911, “Hello, I’d like to report an attempted murder. Someone here deliberately tried to kill
someone.”
Edward looked up in shock, turning back to Emily, only now realizing his kick had caused her to hemorrhage severely.
Judging by the amount of blood, anyone could see Emily wouldn’t survive.
Edward’s parents panicked immediately, hurrying to get him to hide, but before they could leave, the police had already put handcuffs on Edward.
His parents weren’t spared either – for illegally using their connections to help him escape prison, they too were handcuffed and taken to the police
car.
The wedding quickly returned to normal, and the officiant took up the microphone to ask me again, “Bride, do you agree to become the groom’s wife, to face together the future’s storms and sunshine, through sickness and health, until death do you part?”
I nodded with a smile, “I do. In this life, the next life, and the life after that I do.”
