Chapter 111
Justin thought to himself as he stepped into the house.
Mrs. Zimmer was in the kitchen directing the staff in preparing dinner, while Emily was outside in the small garden, turning off the sprinkler she had been using to water the lawn.
Once the watering was done, she headed to the bathroom to wash her hands before dinner. Finding she still had some time, she sat on the couch and started scrolling through her phone.
A new email stood out in her inbox.
Emily clicked it open and immediately frowned, her face twisting in disgust. The email contained explicit photos of Justin and Emma in bed.
The images were vile and unbearable to look at. After just a glance, Emily deleted the email in disgust.
“Disgusting!” she thought, her stomach churning.
She didn’t need to guess who had sent it. Other than Emma, no one else would have known her email address, let alone sent something so malicious.
The sound of the door unlocking interrupted her thoughts. Justin had returned home.
In the past, Emily would have greeted him at the door the moment he came back from work. Now, she remained seated, her phone still in hand, unmoving.
Justin noticed her indifference and felt slightly annoyed. He wanted to remind her of her past warmth, but when he thought of his recent actions, he held back, knowing he didn’t have the right.
Changing into his house slippers, Justin approached Emily, who was still looking at her phone.
“Emily, I saw some flowers being sold on the roadside after work. They looked nice, so I picked some up for you,‘ he said casually, holding out the bouquet of roses.
In truth, he had gone out of his way to buy them, but he downplayed the effort.
Hearing his voice, Emily looked up, only to see the large bouquet of carefully wrapped red roses thrust in front of her.
The roses were vibrant, their deep red color almost glaring and their scent filled the air.
A wave of nausea surged through her.
She wasn’t sure if it was the overpowering fragrance, the vivid red that reminded her of the photo she had just seen, or perhaps both.
“Ugh!” Emily pushed Justin aside and bolted to the bathroom, retching violently.
Justin stood there, still holding the bouquet, his expression darkening.
Mrs. Zimmer, who had just brought a dish to the dining table, heard the sound of retching and hurried after Emily into the bathroom.
“Miss Yates, what’s wrong? Why are you throwing up all of a sudden?” Mrs. Zimmer’s voice was filled with concern as she gently patted Emily’s back.
“I…ugh…” Emily tried to say she was fine but ended up retching again.
Mrs. Zimmer handed her a tissue to wipe her mouth, her brows furrowed in worry. Suddenly, a thought struck her.

“Miss Yates, could you be pregnant?”
Emily froze, startled. Her nausea momentarily subsided from the shock.
“No, Mrs. Zimmer, it’s just because dinner is a bit later than usual tonight. My stomach’s a little upset from the acid. I’ll be fine once I eat,” Emily hastily explained, coming up with a random excuse.
Fortunately, Mrs. Zimmer wasn’t highly educated and was easily convinced.
Even so, Mrs. Zimmer remained puzzled. “Is that so? When I was pregnant, I had the same reaction.”
“Mrs. Zimmer, I just had my period recently,” Emily replied seriously, rinsing her mouth.
“Well, if you’re not pregnant, it’s no big deal. You young people are different from our time. You’re not in a rush to have kids anyway.”
Though Emily felt weak after throwing up, she wasn’t in any real discomfort. Still, Mrs. Zimmer insisted on supporting her as she walked.
Outside the bathroom, Justin stood waiting, his dark eyes fixed on Emily. His tone left no room for argument. “Go to the hospital for a checkup tomorrow.”
Emily gave him a cool glance as she sidestepped him and headed for the dining table. “Did you forget? I had a checkup at Lichfield Hospital not long ago. If I were pregnant, Zac would’ve already told you. Don’t you remember? That was the same day I ran into Emma in the hospital garden.”
