Chapter 115
“I didn’t mean to see anything. I was just passing by. Please step aside,” Emily said coldly.
Jack chuckled slyly. “What’s the big deal? Come join us. I won’t tell Mr. Yates.”
The secretary, apparently accustomed to situations like this, stepped aside to make room for Emily.
Emily’s gaze hardened. “Mr. Griffin, since you know who I am, you should also know that I’m not someone you can mess with.” She glanced around, realizing her exit was blocked. With no other options, she brought up Justin.
Jack let out a cold laugh. “The only person I wouldn’t dare touch is Emma. But you? Who do you think you are? From what I’ve heard, women in your position only care about money. Whatever Justin’s paying you, I’ll double it.”
He smirked and thought smugly, “As long as I get her in bed, who cares about paying her? I could just record a compromising video and use it to keep her in line. Women are all the same in bed anyway. But since she’s someone Justin has been with, I’m curious to see what makes her so special.”
“Move, or I’ll call Justin,” Emily said sharply, gripping her phone tightly as cold sweat formed in her palm.
She felt uncertain. Justin only toyed with her, and Jack was supposedly a highly capable manager. There was a chance Justin wouldn’t even care if Jack tried to cross the line.
Jack sneered again. “Scaring me with Justin? He just handed the project with Wilfred over to Emma today. Do you think a rookie like her can manage such a project? It’s just Justin polishing her resume to boost her status. Meanwhile, he drags you to events like this. Don’t you get it? Women brought to these gatherings are here for the men at the table to use as they please.”
“Is that so? Then let me ask him,” Emily said, feigning calm as she unlocked her phone and began dialing Justin.
Fortunately, Jack hesitated, clearly wary of Justin. He clenched his teeth, spat out a threat, “You’ll regret this!” then stormed off with his secretary in tow.
Emily’s legs nearly gave out as she leaned against the wall, her strength seemingly drained. She had no intention of returning to the dinner. Instead, she sent Justin a brief text and waited until she felt strong enough to leave, calling a cab to take her home.
Sitting slumped in the back seat of the taxi, Emily stared blankly out the window.
The driver glanced at her through the rearview mirror, turned down the music, and started making small talk. ” Rough night? Fighting with your boyfriend?”
“No,” she replied weakly.
“I’m not Justin’s girlfriend. I’m just his mistress. Emma is his girlfriend,” she thought to herself.
Her mind replayed Jack’s words, “Justin just handed the project with Wilfred over to Emma today. Do you think a rookie like her can manage such a project?”
“Is that the difference between love and indifference?” she thought bitterly. “He lifts her up while mocking my passion for art as worthless.”
“Whoa! Looks like there’s been an accident up ahead,” the driver exclaimed. “It’s bad! Someone didn’t make it.”
Chapter 115
Emily’s attention shifted as she turned to look.
“Don’t, miss. You’ll end up having nightmares,” the driver warned.
“I won’t,” she replied calmly. She rarely dreamed.
Her gaze lingered briefly on the grisly scene–a bloody wreck with dark red pooling on the asphalt–before turning back.

The taxi pulled up at the entrance to Villa One. Emily paid the fare and got out.
When she returned home, she discovered that Mrs. Zimmer had moved her belongings from the guest room to the master bedroom.
Emily didn’t bother arguing. She quietly headed to the bathroom to shower.
Afterward, she climbed into bed, intending to sleep. As part of her nightly routine, she picked up her phone for a bit of browsing.
Unlocking it, she saw a message from Wilfred inviting her to view Haley’s artwork the following afternoon. She replied briefly, then spent a little more time browsing her phone before finally drifting off to sleep.
