Chapter 117
Jack couldn’t get Emily out of his head. Even during meetings at work, her figure kept intruding into his thoughts.
After the meeting ended, instead of returning to his office, he wandered around the building, hoping to catch a glimpse of her. He didn’t find Emily but instead ran into Emma.
His gaze swept over Emma from head to toe, comparing her to Emily in his mind. He shook his head subtly. “Not as striking as Emily,” he silently remarked.
Still, his greasy fingers stroked his chin as he thought to himself, “She may not be as enticing, but she could still scratch the itch.”
With a sly smirk, Jack adjusted his suit and approached Emma. His eyes lingered on her inappropriately as he spoke.
“Miss Xander, I hear you landed the Wilfred project. Quite impressive. Looks like I’ll have to start calling you Director Xander soon.”
Emma responded politely, “You’re too kind, Mr. Griffin. I’m just here to learn from the experience.
“If you ever need guidance, feel free to come to me. I’d be happy to help,” he offered, his tone laced with hidden
intent.
“Thank you, Mr. Griffin, but I should get back to work now, Emma said before walking away.
As she left, Jack spat on the floor, muttering under his breath, “What’s there to be proud of? She only got that project by sleeping her way to it.”
Meanwhile, Emily stayed in the bathroom for a long time, scrubbing herself until she felt satisfied.
She assumed Justin would have already left for work, as he usually did. However, when she returned to the bedroom, she found him still there, waiting for her.
Unlike her, still in her pajamas, Justin was fully dressed. It was as though their earlier argument hadn’t happened.
Justin picked up a tie and handed it to her. “Help me put this on.”
Though unwilling, Emily quietly took the tie and knotted it for him.
“Now he’ll leave,” she thought to herself.
“Get ready. You’re coming to the office with me,” he said suddenly.
“I’m going to an art exhibit this afternoon. I don’t have time to go to the office with you,” she replied flatly.
Justin glanced at his watch, noting that it was 8:40 a.m. His tone was cold and unyielding. “You have twenty minutes to get ready. After lunch, I’ll let you leave.”
With no choice, Emily changed into something presentable, applied some foundation, and grabbed her breakfast before heading to the car.
By the time they arrived at RC Corporation, it was already 10 a.m. She calculated that she would only need to stay a couple of hours before she could leave. Though she hated being forced into this, it was easier to play along than to fight him.
While Justin went off to a meeting, Emily stayed in the lounge, finishing her breakfast. Eating in the car always made her queasy.
Chapter 117
The atmosphere in the conference room was tense.
Emma’s sudden appointment to the project team was well–known among the company’s senior exécutives. It left many of them deeply dissatisfied, especially those aligned with Harry, Justin’s uncle, and his faction.
Everyone knew this project was a goldmine. The competition was a mere formality. RC Corporation was the only company in the running with the capacity to handle it.
“Mr. Yates,” said Mr. Ziegler, the general manager and one of Harry’s allies, “Emma is just a rookie. Assigning her to such a critical project feels a bit reckless.”
Justin glanced at him indifferently, his tone sharp. “She’s in a minor role. I’ll be supervising the project personally, and the team leader, Mr. Quinn, will handle the major responsibilities. What exactly are you worried about?”
Tapping his fingers lightly on the table, he added, “This is final. Anyone else have an issue?”
With his blatant favoritism toward Emma, no one dared to speak further.
Justin stood and left, followed by the senior executives trailing behind him.
Harry’s faction remained seated, unmoving.
One of them finally spoke up, “Mr. Yates is still young and impulsive. Ignoring the advice of the senior executives will only lead to serious mistakes”
Sitting in the middle of the conference room, Jacob lazily spun his chair with his foot, quietly listening to their complaints for a while.
When he had enough, he stood up and said casually, “It’s just a project. Why make it a fight with the president? If he wants to put someone on the team, let him.”
