Chapter 18
“Who…who bit you?” Emma’s voice trembled as she asked
Justin was at a loss for words, his face tense. He shot a glance at Zac, silently pleading for help.
Zac, who had been enjoying the unfolding drama, raised an eyebrow in surprise.

“Seriously, man?” Zac thought. “You ditched Emma, your supposed one true love, to sneak off with another woman and even got bitten as proof? Now you want me to cover for you?”
Justin’s gaze didn’t waver, clearly hoping Zac would jump in.
With a resigned sigh, Zac figured he would better step in. That was what good friends were for, after all.
Adjusting his silver–framed glasses, he flashed a small smile and looked at Emma. “Emma, that mark on Justin’s neck? Yeah, that was me,” he said casually. “Hope you don’t mind,” he added with a hint of amusement.
Justin’s eyes narrowed, shooting Zac a glare that could cut steel. “I needed you to cover for me, not make it worse!”
Zac, unfazed, avoided Justin’s gaze, feigning innocence. “Hey, it was the best I could do on short notice. The bite marks were pretty obvious.”
“Want me to demonstrate and bite him again for proof?” Zac added with a smirk, hoping to salvage the moment.
But Justin’s glare only intensified.
Emma’s gaze, filled with hurt but also a forced strength, was fixed on Justin. “If you don’t want me in your life anymore, you could just tell me, Justin. I’d never stand in the way of your happiness…” She trailed off, then large tears began rolling down her cheeks.
She covered her mouth to muffle her sobs, turned, and hurried to her room, shutting the door behind her with a controlled but firm click. It was just enough to show her pain without seeming overly dramatic.
The bite mark on Justin’s neck, it had to be from Emily.
Emma hadn’t seen it happen, but she just knew. Leaning against the door, her eyes burned with jealousy and malice.
“You’re just a substitute, Emily. You look like me, and that’s why he chose you. But if you keep clinging to Justin, you’ll regret it,” she silent remarked.
Watching Emma run off, Zac quietly observed, thinking to himself, “There’s nothing like a beautiful woman shedding tears. It really tugs at the heartstrings.”
Justin made a move to follow her, but Zac held him back, gesturing at the bite mark on his neck. “You can’t chase after her looking like that. Let’s get that cleaned up first.”
Zac tugged Justin back into the room. As he got to work on disinfecting the wound, Justin silently watched the door to Emma’s room, his face troubled.
Emma was the one he truly wanted. So why was he acting like this?
On the couch, Zac applied an iodine swab to the bite mark. This time, Justin stayed quiet, his face barely flinching except for an occasional furrowed brow.
Zac couldn’t help but wonder who would have bitten Justin with such ferocity, drawing blood like that.
The marks were clearly from a woman. It couldn’t have been a man or a zombie.

And since he and Emma had been in the hallway, and there outside the room.
Could it have been Emily?
“Was it Emily?” Zac asked, voicing his suspicion.
Justin’s glare returned. “Don’t bring her up!” he snapped.
“So, I was right,” Zac thought, piecing it together.
