Chapter 24
Justin looked at Emma’s thin face, his brows furrowing with concern.
“She’s way too skinny,” he thought.
Glancing at his watch, he said, “I’m out of time. I need to go.”
“I’ll walk you out,” she offered.
Emma walked him to the elevator, watching as the doors closed and he disappeared from view. She returned to her apartment, shut the door, and immediately pulled out her phone.
The first thing she did was search for hospitals online, deliberately avoiding Lichfield Hospital. She found a public hospital and booked an appointment for a Hymenoplasty. The confirmation appeared on the screen, and she let out a satisfied chuckle, her eyes glinting with a hint of triumph.
Meanwhile, back in the car, Justin leaned back in the seat, exhausted, as William drove. Justin rubbed his temples and sighed deeply, clearly worn out.
He hadn’t been sleeping well these past few nights. Every time he managed to fall asleep, he would dream either about Emily falling into the pool, with him unable to reach her, or about Emma disappearing mysteriously in Merika State, with him frantically searching for her to no avail.
He knew he needed rest, even if just a few moments to close his eyes. Over the past couple of days, Justin had finally made up his mind. Emma would be his future wife, and Emily was now a thing of the past. He realized it wasn’t worth his energy to focus on someone who had only been a placeholder.

“Mr. Yates, we’re here,” William said, opening the door.
Justin stepped out, adjusting his suit.
He stood before RC Corporation, situated in the heart of Lincourt City’s downtown. As Haven State’s top international finance and trade company, its headquarters occupied a towering skyscraper, whose impressive height and grand architectural style had made it a true landmark of the city.
“Good morning, Mr. Yates,” Sam, his assistant, greeted him at the entrance.
Justin gave a slight nod, expression impassive, as he walked briskly into the building, exuding an air of authority and cool confidence.
Sam followed him into the private elevator to the executive floor. Since Justin hadn’t been in the office for a few days, the entire executive assistant team had lined up in the lobby to welcome him back
“Good morning, Mr. Yates!” they called out in unison.
“Alright, get back to work,” he replied with a curt nød.
In his office, Justin settled behind his desk as Sam began briefing him on various matters, holding a stack of documents.
“The medical equipment shipment from Haven State arrived at the Bayport last night,” Sam reported. “It’s been unloaded and stored at a nearby warehouse.”
Sam continued, “LS Enterprise has applied for a ten–billion–dollar loan to support its international logistics operations. The Vice President has already signed off on it, pending your final approval.”

“Hold on,” Justin interrupted, his face growing stern.

“The medical equipment is for Zac, right? Just get in touch with Lichfield Hospital and let them handle the logistics. And LS Enterprise applied for a ten–billion–dollar loan?” Justin asked, his face darkening as he spoke in a cold tone.
“Yes, Mr. Yates. The Vice President personally guaranteed it.‘
The Vice President, Harry Yates, was Justin’s uncle.
“What’s the collateral? And the appraisal?”
“The collateral is MB E–commerce Co., Ltd.
“I’ve heard that LS Enterprise has connections with the government in Amara State. But after looking into it, we found that over seventy percent of their logistics routes and transfer points overlap with those of RC Corporation subsidiaries, and their operating model is quite similar.”
It was almost like they were outright using RC Corporation’s logistics routes.
Sam handed Justin two documents. MB E–commerce was nothing but a shell company. A quick investigation had easily uncovered that.
As Justin skimmed through the files, his fingers drummed on the desk. After a quick read, he let out a quiet, derisive laugh.
