Emily looked back at her with calm confidence, smiling slightly. “Thank you both for going out of your way to visit me.”
Emma opened her mouth to say something else, but Justin interrupted, turning to Emma. “Didn’t you say you were going to get the medicine from Zac? Did you get it?”
“I did!” Emma answered, her gaze filled with happiness as she looked at him.
“Then let’s head out. There’s still work to do at the office.” Justin took the bag from her hand and, with a smooth motion, intertwined his fingers with hers as they walked out of the hospital room together.
Emily’s eyes flickered briefly as she watched their fingers locked together, a shadow passing over her face for just
a moment.
“Bye–bye, Emily!” Emma turned back, giving a cute wave before matching her steps to Justin’s.
The door closed behind them.
Emily tossed her clothes onto the bed and sat down, feeling suddenly drained of all her strength. They looked perfect together, happy, like they had never been apart. These past three years, she had only been a temporary substitute, a way for Justin to hold onto his feelings for Emma.
After sitting for a while and regaining her energy, she took her clothes and headed to the restroom to change. She folded the hospital gown neatly back onto the bed, pulled out her phone to order a ride, and, with her bag and medicine in hand, went to the front desk to settle her bill.
“It’s already been paid?” Emily was surprised.
“Yes,” the nurse replied after checking the computer. “Mr. Justin Yates took care of it for you.”
“Thank you.” Emily blinked, feeling a mix of emotions, then left the hospital.
Outside, her car was still two minutes away. Emily stood by the curb, waiting.
A sleek black luxury car sped past her without slowing.
She was looking down at her phone, transferring the medical fee back to Justin, then promptly deleted his contact.
Not noticing the car that had just whizzed by, she got into her ride as it pulled up.
Inside the black luxury car, Emma sat next to Justin, peering out the window at Emily waiting by the roadside. She said with a concerned expression, “Justin, poor Emily doesn’t have any family here and now has to wait by herself. Why don’t we give her a ride?”
She tugged on Justin’s arm, her voice soft and innocent, almost pleading.
Justin glanced away from his tablet, casting a brief look at Emily standing outside. He then turned to Emma. Whether she’s in a bad spot or not has nothing to do with us. If you’re feeling charitable, focus on yourself and eat a bit more. You should put on a bit more weight!”
Emma’s face lit up, and she happily settled back into her seat.
Moments ago, she had been testing Justin. When the school called to report Emily’s accident, she had noticed a flicker of panic in his expression. But his immediate, dismissive reaction to Emily reassured her.
The position of Mrs. Yates could only belong to her.
Satisfied, Emma quieted down, and Justin turned to look out the window. Despite his efforts, he couldn’t push

Irritated, he clenched his jaw. He didn’t want to hear anything more about Emily!
He had been doing his best to avoid even thinking about her! And yet, with one call from the school, he had found himself at the hospital.
“You shouldn’t be thinking about Emily. Emma is the woman you care about.” With that thought, Justin turned, placing his hand over Emma’s and holding it firmly.
