After Emily got home, the bruised areas from her fall started to ache, and there was a dull pain in her chest as well.
She went to her room, took off her clothes to apply medicine. The bruise was on her right side, so she clumsily applied the ointment with her left hand. Once she was done, she felt hungry but didn’t feel like cooking, so she ordered takeout.
Halfway through her meal, her teacher messaged her, first checking on her well–being and then offering to cover her medical expenses. Emily politely declined, as she had already withdrawn from school. After all, it was her own misstep that led to the fall, not the school’s fault. It was her teacher and classmates who had called the ambulance and gotten her to the hospital.
She sent a message thanking them and resumed watching her show while eating her takeout. After finishing her meal, she continued binge–watching. Now that she didn’t have to attend school or work at the school’s art exhibit, she could focus on recovering.
Meanwhile, after Justin and Emma left the hospital, they drove directly to a care facility to visit Justin’s grandfather, Mr. Yates Sr.
In the care facility room, Justin sat by the bed, holding Mr. Yates Sr.’s hand with a firm expression, as if making a decision. “Grandpa, I’ve brought Emma to see you.”
He continued, “From now on, Emma will be your granddaughter–in–law. I’ve decided that I’m going to marry her!”
Emma stood beside him, her eyes lighting up with excitement. She was so thrilled that she trembled slightly.” Justin… you’re going to marry me!”
Happiness had come so quickly and easily that Emma could hardly believe it. Ever since she had first seen Emily back in the Merika State, she thought winning Justin’s hand would be a difficult journey. Yet now, it was so effortless!
“Would I lie to you?”
“No, you never lie to me!” Emma exclaimed, throwing herself into Justin’s arms and burying her head in his chest, holding him tightly around the waist.
Justin hesitated for a moment but then wrapped his arms around her, his expression resolute, Marrying Emma was something he had decided upon back when she saved him during his teenage years in Merika State. She was the one he had chosen!
Emily, by contrast, was just a stand–in, someone who had temporarily filled Emma’s place in his life.
Now that Emma was back, everything could return to the way it was meant to be, Emily was someone he had saved from the sea, and he would let her go back to it, returning her to where she belonged. From this point forward, their lives would go their separate ways.
Justin tightened his hold on Emma in response.
Just then, Mr. Yates Sr., who had been sleeping, suddenly opened his eyes and looked at the two embracing each other. He tried to speak, but all that came out was a muffled sound, as if he was voicing his disapproval of Justin marrying Emma.
After a brief visit, Justin and Emma left the care facility, and Justin drove her home. He waited for her to enter her house before heading to the elevator.
While checking his phone, he saw a transfer notification from Emily. The amount matched the medical expenses
