“I might go to another city, or even abroad. I haven’t decided yet,” Emily said, leaning back on the sofa, her tone calm.
“Either one sounds great,” Helen agreed, surprisingly enthusiastic. “You could go to the Merika State. My family’s over there. I’d love to take you to visit!”
Emily fell into thought. The Merika State was the place where Emma and Justin reunited.
“Fleure Academy is in the Merika State, too,” Helen suggested cheerfully, “You could continue your studies there.” She could tell from Emily’s expression that she was hesitating,
“Merika’s huge! The chance of running into that jerk Justin is pretty slim! And unless you plan on leaving Earth, there’s no avoiding him completely!” Helen added.
Helen made a good point, and Emily’s mind suddenly cleared. Fleure Academy was the pinnacle of art schools. It would be a shame not to give it a shot just because of one heartbreak.
With renewed determination, Emily nodded. “Alright, then The Merika State it is.”
“Great! Just wait! I’ll contact the school and start the process for studying abroad!” Helen was practically buzzing with excitement. Her whole face lit up, thrilled at the thought of taking her friend back with her. Her family would be so proud of her for this! Fantastic! Hahaha!
“Won’t transferring abroad interrupt your studies?” Emily asked, slightly concerned. “Maybe you should finish this semester? I’m in no rush, and Fleure’s admissions haven’t opened yet anyway.”
“Fine, I’ll finish the semester,” Helen agreed easily.
Just then, Sean called.
“Hey, what’ve you been busy with the last couple of days? I’ve been messaging you, but you didn’t reply. Still mad about that joke my friend made the other day?” Sean chuckled, his voice full of youthful energy.
Emily froze. She had nearly forgotten the incident at the parking lot. She hadn’t replied to his messages simply because they weren’t close, and she didn’t know how to respond.
“No, I’ve just been busy and haven’t checked my phone,” she replied, coming up with an excuse.
“Who is that?” Helen raised her eyebrows, curious.
Emily held her phone out for Helen to see the caller ID, Sean.
“So, are you free tonight? I’d like to treat you to dinner,” Sean said, driving towards Helen’s place to pick her up, using the address the driver had given him last time he dropped them off.
“That’s alright. I’m not really up for dinner. I had a fall today, so it might not be convenient.”
“What? You got hurt again?” Sean sounded worried on the other end. “Wait for me!”
The call ended abruptly. “Hello?” Emily said, confused. Wait for him? For what?
Helen sighed dramatically, handing Emily an ice cream bar before digging fiercely into her own. “This guy, Sean. I thought he was genuinely apologizing for the car bump, but turns out he’s just trying to steal you away!”
“He’s a high school senior. He’s just joking. You’re reading too much into it,” Emily said nonchalantly, not taking it seriously at all.

The doorbell rang.
Helen rushed over to open the door.
