Sean walked in, carrying takeout bags in both hands. “Didn’t Emily say she took a fall and can’t go out? So I figured, why not bring the food here myself?
“Besides, you probably don’t feel like cooking, right? So takeout it is.” He placed the dishes on the table. “It’s from Seven Kings. I know she loves it,” he added with a cheerful smile.
“Oh, I’m impressed, kiddo! You’re really thoughtful!” Helen teased without a care, turning toward the kitchen to grab some plates and utensils.
Sean’s smile faltered a bit at being called “kiddo.” He subtly glanced at Emily, worried she might see him as too young and be put off. When he noticed she didn’t react much, he felt relieved.
“You really didn’t need to go to all this trouble,” Emily said casually. “You saved me at the pool last time, so I should be the one treating you to a meal.”
“What’s the difference? You can take me out once you’re all better,” Sean replied, clearly happy just to spend time with her.
During the meal, Sean was attentive, constantly offering Emily food and peeling shrimp for her, despite her polite refusals. Eventually, she gave in, finding it impossible to stop him.
Helen, watching Sean’s attentiveness, couldn’t help but ask, “Sean, are you seriously interested in my friend?”
Without missing a beat, Sean looked at Emily and nodded. “Of course!”
“Well, we’re planning to go abroad, you know,” Helen said, shaking her head while she ate. “Your one–sided crush won’t last much longer.”
“Going abroad? Where to?”
“The Merika State, Fleure Academy.”
“No problem! When are you going? I can go too.”
“No,” Emily interjected, putting a quick end to that idea.
“Why not?”
She thought about Sean’s family background. “Studying abroad isn’t like a vacation. You can’t just go whenever you feel like it. Would your family even agree? And don’t you need to focus on getting into college?“,
“My family’s okay with it! They’re planning to send me overseas for college after I graduate high school anyway,‘ Sean replied, a hint of sadness in his tone.
“I’m all for it!” Helen chimed in with a grin. “We’re all studying abroad anyway. Might as well go together!”
After the meal, Sean didn’t stay long and soon left.
A week later, Emily’s sprained wrist and bruises had mostly healed. That was when she received a message from her teacher.
The school art exhibit had been a great success, and one of her heritage–inspired paintings had caught the attention of the Bay City government.
It so happened that Bay City had recently completed construction on a new district, and they wanted heritage- inspired artwork on the feature wall of the pedestrian street.
“They’re inviting you to design it, with an offer of $200,000. Interested?” the teacher asked.

A moment later, the teacher added another message. “I suggest you take it. It’ll give you exposure and benefit your career in the long run.”
Emily didn’t reply right away, instead weighing the pros and cons in her mind. It was mostly advantages and this would be a valuable stepping stone for her career.
Since she had lost her memory, her prior academic achievements were a blur, so having a major project would definitely help her. She had a week until the 21st, and her wrist was recovering well. Plus, it wouldn’t interfere with her plans to go to the Merika State, And for someone without much fame, the offered amount was considerable.
Although she currently had twenty million, it wasn’t enough to last her forever. She needed to earn her own income.
“I’ll take it,” Emily responded decisively.
“Great. I’ll send over the relevant documents in a bit,” her teacher replied, promptly sending her two folders of information.
