Emma always acted as if she were superior and set apart from others, hinting at a special relationship with Mr. Yates. Yet how could she not know he took private jets for business trips?
Emily, by contrast, was far more modest and polite.
The gossip about Mr. Yates, Emily, and Emma had spread all around the secretary team. Being on the same floor as the CEO’s office, they had access to all the juicy details.
“Alright, I’ll give him a call and ask,” Emma replied, trying to look casual.
The secretary left the lounge.
It was only today that Emma learned Justin would be traveling to Bay City for business. She had rushed over at noon in hopes of joining him, only to find out he had already left.
Emma dialed Justin’s number. After just two rings, he picked up.
“Justin, why didn’t you take me along on your business trip?” she pouted, a hint of complaint in her voice. “I wanted to be with you. I don’t feel safe without you nearby.
On the other end, Justin rubbed his forehead, sounding a bit weary. Emma had changed in the past three years. She had become clingy.
He understood her need for reassurance after disappearing overseas for three years, and he had been patient with her emotional needs. But he couldn’t ignore his work entirely.
“Emma, be good. I’ll be back from Bay City in two days.” Justin’s tone was gentle but firm. “Your health isn’t good, and long flights are hard on you. Listen to the nutritionist, eat well, and put on a bit of weight while I’m gone. Be a good girl, alright?”
Hearing Justin’s comforting tone, Emma felt content. “Alright, then. I’ll listen to you and wait for you to come home!”
The call ended.
Zac, who had been listening nearby, imitated Justin, exaggerating his tone. “You better listen to the nutritionist, eat a bit more, and be a good girl, alright?”
He shuddered afterward, clearly amused and disgusted.
“Justin, doesn’t it give you chills when she talks in that syrupy tone?” he asked, mimicking her tone again.
Justin gave Zac a sidelong look. “If you’re in such a hurry to meet your end, I can make it happen.‘
Zac quickly made himself scarce.
After hanging up, Emma turned around, only to come face–to–face with Justin’s mother, Heidi Yates, who was staring at her in shock and disbelief.
Emma’s heels clicked as she stepped slowly toward Heidi, a smirk on her face that didn’t reach her eyes. With a hint of defiance, she offered a greeting.
“My future mother–in–law, long time no see!”
Who do you think you’re calling your ‘future mother–in–law‘? Don’t address me like that!” Heidi snapped, her entire posture tense with wariness and distaste.
Every fiber of Heidi’s being seemed to bristle with disgust at the sight of Emma.

That morning, Heidi had visited Mr. Yates Sr. at the care facility, where the family’s butler casually mentioned that Justin had brought Emma along to see him.
After disappearing for three years in the Merika State, how had Emma suddenly reappeared? And why was she still involved with Justin?
She even had the nerve to visit Mr. Yates Sr.?
Unable to accept it, Heidi had gone straight to the company to confront Justin.
Instead, she ended up overhearing Emma’s nauseatingly sweet phone call with her son.
It made her stomach churn.
How could Emma spew such shamelessly sugary nonsense without the slightest hint of embarrassment?
Emma, however, seemed completely unfazed by Heidi’s reaction, her smile growing even sweeter but her eyes told a very different story.
