“But you are Justin’s mother, and I’m his girlfriend. You’re going to be my future mother–in–law, so I’m just getting used to it!” Emma replied with a playful laugh. “I’m just being respectful. Right now, I call you my future mother–in–law, but once Justin and I get married, I’ll be calling you Mom!”
Heidi’s anger was written all over her face as she glared at Emma. “Emma, stay away from my son! Marry him? Keep dreaming! As long as I’m in this family, you’ll never set foot in our home!”
“Oh, you didn’t know?” Emma covered her mouth in mock surprise. “Yesterday, Justin took me to visit Mr. Yates Sr. at the care facility, and he proposed to me right in front of him!”
She smiled blissfully, then looked at Heidi with a provocative glint in her eyes.
Heidi’s chest rose and fell with fury. Her voice turned harsh “Impossible! Justin would never propose to you!”
“If you don’t believe me, why not call Justin and ask? You’ll find out soon enough,” Emma replied with a shrug, her tone indifferent. “But you’d better call quickly. Justin’s flying out for a trip, and once the plane takes off, you won’t be able to reach him.”
With that, Emma strutted away in her high heels, leaving Heidi standing there, seething.

Four years ago, Justin had brought Emma and a few classmates to the Yates family estate as guests.
At the time, Emma was dating Justin, but when he stepped away for a moment, she wasted no time flirting with one of his wealthy friends who was also visiting.
Justin’s social circle was filled with elites. They were wealthy and well–connected.
Unfortunately for Emma, Heidi happened to witness the entire scene. From that moment on, Heidi was convinced that Emma was not a trustworthy or stable woman.
To her, it was clear that Emma was only after the Yates family’s wealth.
But hadn’t Emma disappeared in the Merika State? When had she come back? Heidi couldn’t let this slide and she needed answers.
She immediately called Justin.
“Hello? Justin, what’s going on with Emma? When did she come back?” Heidi’s tone was blunt and direct.
“Mom, I found her while on a business trip in the Merika State,” Justin replied, feeling a headache coming on. He knew how much his mother disliked Emma, but he still tried to explain.
“I don’t care where you found her! I don’t approve of you two being together, and I absolutely won’t agree to a marriage!” Heidi’s voice rose, still fuming from her earlier encounter. “She disappeared for three years! Who knows what she was doing or who she was with?”
“Mom!” Justin’s voice turned sharp, cutting her off.
“Emma’s already been through enough. Three years ago, she disappeared while under my watch. I was already in a relationship with her back then, and now that I’ve found her, I have to take responsibility,” Justin stated firmly.
“If you want to make it up to her, fine! Give her money, connections, or status. But don’t use your marriage as the price!” Heidi’s voice was unwavering. “If you want to be with Emily, I won’t object. But Emma? Absolutely not!”
“Mom, I don’t want you interfering in my personal life anymore. The plane’s about to take off. I have to go,”

Justin said irritably before ending the call.
Heidi stood in place, so angry she felt a sharp pain in her chest.

The plane landed in Bay City.
Emily went to retrieve her suitcase, with Sean trailing behind her. Before she could reach for her suitcase, Sean had already picked it up.
“I can handle it myself,” Emily said, reaching out to take her suitcase back.
Sean stepped aside with a grin. “What kind of man lets a woman carry her own suitcase? I’ve got to be a gentleman and do the right thing!”
