Chapter 43
“The changes are done, Mr. Yates. Please take a look,” Emily said in a businesslike tone.
Suddenly, her phone rang. It was Sean.
Emily set her laptop down and walked to the side, deliberately turning her back to Justin before answering,
“Yes, yes, I got it. Stop nagging and go to sleep. Goodnight.
Justin’s gaze followed her the entire time as she took the call, waiting for her to return.
“Sean?” he asked knowingly.
Emily silently cursed. “If you already know, why ask?”
“So, you’re with Sean? What, he can’t afford to take care of you? You still have to work?” Justin’s tone was sharp
with sarcasm.
“Emily, is this how low you think of yourself? Throwing money at him to stick around? The Smith family isn’t exactly poor. Seems they’re not very generous with you, though.”
He ignored the design and instead seemed more interested in prying into her personal life.
“Mr. Yates, my personal life is none of your business,” Emily said firmly, her face cold. “We’re done, and it’s not appropriate to discuss this.”
“Your personal life is affecting your work quality. Looks to me like you’re too busy playing around with your life to focus on your job!” Justin’s eyes darkened, a brewing storm hidden within.
It was as if he had already decided that Emily and Sean were in a relationship.
“The changes are unacceptable. Redo them!” he demanded, his voice laced with suppressed anger.
Emily’s fury boiled over. Now she understood.
There was nothing wrong with the design. Justin had come here to torment her, to get back at her for what she said when she left Villa One!

Seeing her frozen in place, Justin raised an eyebrow. “Do you not want your paycheck? It’s $200,000, after all.”
Emily clenched her teeth, seething.
“The biggest mistake in taking this job was Justin being the investor. If I had known, I’d never have agreed!” She regretted not doing more research.
Swallowing her pride, she sat down and began reworking the design.
Late into the night, Emily stifled a yawn and handed Justin the revised version.
Justin barely glanced at it before his phone rang. It was Emma.
He answered immediately, without a care that Emily was right next to him.
“Justin, you’re still up?” Emma’s sweet, coquettish voice chirped from the phone.
“I’m finishing up some work,” Justin replied patiently, his tone soft.
“You work so hard! Guess where I am right now?” Emma’s playful voice teased through the line.
Justin frowned, concern flashing in his eyes.

Chapter 43
“I’m at Bay City’s train station! I came to see you!”
Justin’s expression darkened, worry clearly written on his face. He closed his laptop and stood abruptly.
“I told you, I’ll be back in two days. You’re not well. Don’t follow me around like this!” His words sounded scolding, but the underlying care was unmistakable.
“But I missed you too much!”
“Stay at the station. I’ll come get you now.”
Still on the call, Justin grabbed his belongings and rushed to the door, completely ignoring Emily. Without so much as a word or a glance in her direction, he disappeared, slamming the door behind him. Emily sat frozen in her chair, staring at the closed door.
It felt just like that time on the street in the Merika State. She was abandoned once again.
Her chest felt heavy, as if a boulder were pressing down on it, suffocating and painful.
“You’ve already chosen Emma, so why do you keep coming back to disrupt my life?” she silently remarked.
