At the hospital, Emily lay on the operating table, prepped for the procedure as the anesthesia began to take effect. The overhead surgical light beamed down on her face, its glare piercing her eyes.
She rarely cried, but now tears slipped silently from the corners of her eyes, soaking into her hair.
On the plane, Justin had just taken his seat. The aircraft hadn’t yet taken off when an unsettling restlessness gnawed at him.
His eyelid twitched, and his chest tightened with inexplicable unease, as though something bad was about to happen.
He thought back to the night before, pulled out his phone, and sent Emily a text.
“Stay away from Sean. If you’re short on money, I can give you some. Stop working.

Immediately after, he transferred one million into her bank account, ensuring it was enough so she wouldn’t refuse out of spite.
With that done, he switched his phone to airplane mode, and the plane took off.
In the operating room, Emily closed her eyes as the procedure began.
The doctor, already dressed in surgical scrubs, started the abortion, but a nurse’s voice suddenly interrupted.
“Dr. Lee, the machine just malfunctioned,” she said, halting the procedure.
Dr. Lee set down the instruments and inspected the equipment.
After checking, he glanced at the chart and apologized. “Miss Yates, I’m very sorry, but due to the equipment failure, the procedure is temporarily suspended. Please let us know when you’re available to reschedule.”

The plane took off and Justin set his phone aside.
He had thought that he could let Emily go completely.
But that illusion shattered when he saw her at the Bay City government building. The desire he thought he had buried flared up again, coursing through his veins like wildfire, spreading to every inch of his body and settling deep within him.
From the window of the meeting room, he had watched as Sean opened the car door for Emily. In Justin’s line of sight, it looked as though Sean had wrapped an arm around her back, gently guiding her into the car before shutting the door.
Jealousy consumed him, growing wild and uncontrollable, tearing through his thoughts.
He forced himself to suppress the storm of emotions, keeping his composure just long enough to finish the meeting.
But letting go of Emily? He realized he was incapable of it.
He couldn’t bear to see her and Sean together, imagining them as a couple sharing intimate moments.

And when he found out they were staying at the same hotel, his mind spiraled. It wasn’t hard to imagine what might happen if an adult man and woman shared a room.
After wrapping up his work, Justin immediately investigated Emily’s room number and used work as an excuse to disrupt her evening, checking to see if she and Sean were sharing a room or betraying him in some way.
Now, on the flight, Justin turned to glance at Emma, who was napping beside him. His eyes carried a flicker of guilt.
He would never let Emma know about Emily’s existence.
Emma was still the one he held closest to his heart, the woman he had dreamed of marrying since his teenage years. The title of Mrs. Yates, the position of the future lady of the Yates family, and the person standing publicly by his side would always be Emma.
But Justin wanted Emily too.
He would keep her hidden. While he couldn’t offer her an official title or status, he would make up for it with everything else money could buy.
Didn’t Emily love painting? He would open an art gallery for her. If she wanted to work, he would provide connections and platforms to help her succeed.
Her life would be comfortable, secure, privileged, and full of opportunities.
All he asked was for Emily to leave Sean and stay by his side
And if she refused to leave Sean? Justin would find a way to tear them apart.
The plane landed at Lincourt City Airport.
Justin pushed the luggage cart with both his and Emma’s suitcases. Emma, still half–asleep, clung to his arm and leaned her head on his shoulder.
Justin didn’t brush her off, letting her maintain the affectionate gesture without a word.
