Chapter 50
“Hmm, not bad. It’s really good,” Justin praised, taking another bite.
“I remember you didn’t like cooking before,” he added, the thought suddenly coming to him.
Emma’s voice softened, tinged with a trace of sadness. “Justin, you already said that it was in the past. During those three years in Merika State, when I was living like a drifter. After a while, you learn to do everything yourself.”
As she spoke, her voice grew choked, her eyes welling with tears that she struggled to hold back.
The mention of her hardships hit Justin hard. He was overwhelmed with guilt, knowing his negligence had led to her disappearance and those three years of suffering.
Tenderly, he pulled a few tissues and gently wiped her tears. “Don’t cry. I promise that will never happen again.” Emma turned her head slightly, lowering her gaze as tears slipped down her face.
“I trust you, Justin,” she said, her voice filled with hope.
Her tone shifted, sounding upbeat again. “Justin, I’ve been feeling so much better lately.”
Justin’s movements stilled for a moment, his body slightly tense.
“I want to get a job,” Emma continued earnestly. “I don’t want to keep depending on you and feel like I’m useless.”
Justin’s tense posture visibly relaxed after hearing her words.
“Don’t overthink it. Has someone been whispering nonsense in your ear?” he asked, casting a glance toward the kitchen.
Emma quickly shook her head. “No, no one said anything. It’s my own decision. I want to work. Back in college, I studied business management, but I never got the chance to use it. Even after getting offers from companies, I didn’t end up taking them.”
She looked at him with hopeful eyes. “But now, I want to prove myself. If I can do well, I can even help you with your work in the future. Then you won’t have to shoulder everything alone!”
Emma looked at Justin with hopeful eyes, waiting for his response.
Justin genuinely appreciated this shift in her attitude. Seeing her let go of the past, regain her sense of purpose, and embrace a fresh start was something he wholeheartedly supported and admired.
“I’ll set you up at RC Corporation,” he said. “Sam will find a suitable position for you.”
“No, Justin! I want to get into RC Corporation on my own merits through the interview process!” Emma clung to Justin’s arm, her tone playful and teasing.
If Zac had been there, he would have undoubtedly rolled his eyes and grumbled about how over–the–top it was.
Justin remained composed, steadying his arm as if unaffected by her antics. With a serious, businesslike
expression, he said, “The interviews at RC Corporation are extremely competitive. You’d better be prepared.”
“If I can’t even pass an interview, how can I ever stand by your side and share your burdens?” Emma asked, her tone both determined and teasing.
“Alright! I believe in you. I’ll be waiting at RC Corporation to see you ace the interview!” Justin replied with a confident nod.

While he admired her drive, he also knew how difficult it was to land a position in the company. The world had changed a lot in three years, and competition was fiercer than ever,
Not wanting Emma to face disappointment, Justin quietly resolved to ensure the interview process would be rigged in her favor.
Meanwhile, back at the hotel, Emily returned from the hospital and began packing her clothes, preparing for a trip to a neighboring city.
As she tidied up the sofa, something caught her eye. It was small men’s tie clip lying in the crevice of the cushions.
It must have fallen there the night Justin had been in her room. He had likely removed his bowtie and set it aside, leaving the clip behind.
It was so small that she hadn’t noticed it when she had the hotel staff deliver the laptop to Justin that day. Picking it up, Emily recognized it immediately.
She had bought it for him two months ago during a shopping; trip, thinking it looked stylish and suited him perfectly.
