Chapter 56
Sean drove through the night, finally arriving at the pre–booked guesthouse in the early hours.
By the time they arrived, Emily had already drifted into a half–asleep state.
Looking over at her peaceful expression as she slept, Sean hesitated to wake her. He eventually gave her a gentle nudge. “Emily, wake up. We’re here,” he whispered softly.
Still groggy, Emily followed him into the guesthouse.
With everything she had been through recently, the getaway felt like a much–needed escape. Despite Sean’s young age, he had proven to be incredibly dependable.
Sean escorted Emily to her room, waiting until the door closed securely before heading to his own.
Inside, Emily locked the door, pushed her suitcase to the side, and collapsed onto the large bed. The night breeze from earlier had chased away her drowsiness, leaving her wide awake.
She rested her hands gently on her stomach, lost in thought
At the hospital in Bay City, a sudden equipment malfunction had prevented the procedure.
As an orphan with no memory of her past or family, the babies growing inside her were now her only blood relatives. If she carried them to term and raised them, they would become the only family she had in this world.
But their father was Justin Yates.
These babies weren’t meant to come into her life now.
The next morning, Sam arrived at RC Corporation.
“Good morning, Mr. Sam!”
“Morning,” Sam replied briskly as he strode through the secretarial wing toward Justin’s office.
He stopped at the door, took a deep breath, and knocked.
“Come in,” Justin’s cold voice called out from inside.
Sam pushed the door open with a resigned expression, fully aware that the news he was about to deliver wasn’t going to please Justin.
“Mr. Yates, we’ve found no evidence that Emily has returned to Lincourt City. There are no flight or train records under her name,” Sam said, staring intently at his shoes.
“She’s still in Bay City, then. Find out which hotel she’s staying at and bring her back,” Justin ordered, his tone laced with irritation.
Sam hesitated, bracing himself before continuing, “We’ve already checked all the hotels in Bay City. There’s no record of Miss Yates staying at any of them.”
Justin shot him a sharp, icy glare, his voice laced with anger. “She didn’t register? Did Sean use his ID to check them in?”
A flicker of fury crossed Justin’s face at the thought. His mind leaped to the possibility of Sean using his ID to book a single room for both of them. The idea of them staying together was enough to make his blood boil. It felt like Emily had dismissed his warnings entirely.

Sensing Justin’s escalating temper, Sam quickly clarified, “No, Mr. Yates, that’s not the case. Miss Yates and Mr. Smith didn’t stay at any hotel in Bay City. My investigation shows that Mr. Smith bought a car on the day he arrived in Bay City.”
He paused, carefully choosing his next words. “They likely drove out of the city via the highway. However, we haven’t pinpointed their destination or confirmed if they’re heading back to Lincourt City.”
Justin slammed the document he had been holding onto his desk, his voice sharp. “So, the two of them just disappeared together?”
Sam nodded cautiously.
“Contact Sean’s family. Bring him back immediately.”
“Yes, Mr. Yates,” Sam replied, retreating from the office as quickly and quietly as possible. Once outside, he let out a heavy sigh.
“Why is Mr. Yates going to such lengths?” he wondered.
Back inside the office, Justin scowled, unable to focus on work.
“So, Emily, now you’ve learned to run away with someone?‘ he thought.
The thought sent a bitter wave of frustration coursing through him. Since when had Emily gained such power over his emotions?
The last time he had felt this out of control was when Emma went missing three years ago.
If Emily could stir his emotions so deeply, there was no way he would allow her to leave him, let alone be with
Sean.
Not a chance.
