Chapter 57
Justin glanced at the stack of documents piling up on his desk but ignored them. He got up, walked to the floor–to -ceiling window, and dialed Emily’s number.
Disconnected.
“Emily, you’re getting bolder by the day!” he fumed.
As he set his phone down, another call came in from Zac.
“What is it?” Justin snapped, his tone sharp, his earlier irritation far from settled.
Zac, unfazed by his mood, chuckled on the other end. “I heard you sent people to Bay City to bring Emily back. What’s more, you’re using some school lecture to target Sean? Justin, don’t tell me you’re jealous. You’ve already split up with Emily. Do you seriously still feel the need to vet who she spends time with?”
Justin’s expression darkened at the jab. His voice turned icy “Who told you that?”
“Sam,” Justin thought. “Is my assistant bored with his job? Does he think RC Corporation is some gossip column?”
Zac could practically hear Justin’s frustration and quickly clarified. “Relax, it wasn’t Sam. I overheard part of your call last night when I was with him.”
“You didn’t head home from the airport? What, you went to Sam’s place instead?” Justin jabbed at his friend with a cold, mocking tone.
“Well, since you got lured away by Emma, I had no choice but to share a drink with Sam.” Zac stood on a hospital balcony, the breeze tousling his hair, his grin full of mischief.
“Lured?” Justin’s mood soured further at Zac’s phrasing.
Unbothered, Zac continued. “What is this, though? Realizing Emily is the one after the breakup? I mean, I always said you two looked like a married couple.”
His tone shifted to icy indifference. “If Emma’s inconvenient for you, I can take care of that.”
Justin’s frown deepened. “That’s none of your concern. Let me be clear that Emma will be my wife, and Emily will be my woman.” 1
Justin hung up the call in frustration, leaving Zac raising an eyebrow, bemused.
“He wants both of them? What does he take Emily for?” Zac shook his head, disapproving of Justin’s behavior. Despite their close friendship, he couldn’t agree with how Justin was handling things.
Justin set down his phone, frustration evident on his face. While Emily might never officially hold the title of Mrs. Yates, he was more than willing to give her everything else, including money, power, and luxury, without
hesitation.
These were things Emily could never achieve on her own, no matter how hard she worked. He would provide it all, sparing no expense.
As for those who disapproved of Emily being with him? That wasn’t their decision to make.
The sun was shining brightly, the weather clear and pleasant. Emily had just finished lunch with Sean after leaving the guesthouse. Sean, as usual, seemed to have a plan and was acting mysteriously.
Chapter 57
“Where are you taking me?” Emily asked, puzzled.
“You’ll see when we get there,” Sean replied, a sly smile on his face.
The destination turned out to be a hospital. Emily’s expression darkened immediately, and she turned to leave.
Sean quickly grabbed her arm, pulling her back. “Emily, you skipped the check–up yesterday. You have to get it done today. Otherwise, there’s no way I can take you on a trip. If something happens, Helen will skin me alive.”
Sean’s concern was genuine. It wasn’t just about the baby. He was worried about Emily too. Pregnancy wasn’t something to take lightly, and he felt responsible for ensuring both Emily and the baby were safe.
“Besides,” Sean thought to himself, “these babies might just call me Dad someday.”
