Chapter 58
Sean was always brimming with confidence in himself, and this time was no different.
To be honest, Emily didn’t feel any significant changes in herself. Aside from the queasiness she experienced the previous morning, she felt perfectly fine. Even her appetite was great today.
If it weren’t for the results printed in black and white on the medical report, she wouldn’t believe she was pregnant.
“Did you tell Helen that I’m pregnant?” Emily asked calmly, her eyes steady on Sean.
“As long as you go for the check–up, I won’t say a word to Helen,” Sean promised.
Hearing that, Emily turned on her heel and headed off. If Sean hadn’t told Helen yet, she would take this chance to end the pregnancy. She had made up her mind and wasn’t about to waver.
She quickly completed the registration and payment for the procedure, despite Sean’s attempts to stop her.
At the abortion department, a nurse glanced at her paperwork and said apologetically, “I’m sorry, but the department is closed for the day. You can get a refund at the front desk or reschedule for another day.”
Sean seized the moment, pleading with her, “See? Even fate wants you to keep the baby. Don’t go through with it, please!”
Emily stood there, feeling utterly defeated.
Taking advantage of her hesitation, Sean gently steered her toward the prenatal care department for a check–up instead.
“The babies are developing well. Make sure to come for regular check–ups and maintain proper nutrition since you’re expecting twins. Also, you have a hyper–ovulatory condition, which makes it easier to conceive multiples. If you’re not planning for more children in the future, you’ll need to take extra precautions.”
The first part was directed at Emily, but the latter half was clearly aimed at Sean.
Dressed in a tailored shirt with neatly styled hair, Sean exuded an air of sophistication that made it hard to gauge his age. The doctor seemed to mistake him for Emily’s husband.
Emily was too preoccupied to notice the way the doctor glanced between her and Sean. However, Sean noticed the subtle misassumption and couldn’t help but smirk to himself.
“Thank you, doctor. I’ll make sure to take good care of her! Sean responded warmly.
Two attempts to terminate the pregnancy had failed. Emily felt utterly lost. What was she supposed to do now?
“Don’t overthink it, Emily. Just focus on having the babies Sean said with confidence, keeping the rest of his thoughts to himself.
“I’ll take care of them too.” He didn’t dare say that part aloud, knowing it might upset her. But he wasn’t joking.
Sean gently grabbed her wrist and, seeing no resistance, led her out of the examination room and out of the hospital.
Over the past few days, Sean had come to understand something about Emily. When they were still getting to know each other, she kept a polite distance, always stepping back to maintain her boundaries. But now that they were closer, she trusted him enough to let him take the lead
In the outdoor parking lot, the afternoon heat lingered. Sean unlocked the car and started the air conditioning to

cool it down. His phone buzzed with an incoming call. Glancing at the screen, he frowned slightly.
“Emily, wait in the car. I’ll take this over there.”
“Okay,” she replied.
Sean walked to the shaded side of the hospital building to answer the call, leaving Emily to settle in the car. While Sean stepped away, Emily remembered she hadn’t updated Helen about her new number. Worried Helen might panic if she couldn’t reach her, Emily opened her messaging app and sent a friend request to Helen. Her new account had only two contacts so far, Sean and now Helen, who promptly accepted the request.
Shortly after, Helen called through the app. Emily picked up.
“Hey, girl! What’s going on? Why the sudden change in your number and account?” Helen’s voice was filled with
concern.
“I changed my phone number too,” Emily explained directly. “Justin kept harassing me with messages. Blocking him didn’t help. He just kept finding ways to call. So I decided to change everything altogether.
“My new account is tied to my phone number. Make sure you save it,” Emily added.
Upon hearing this, Helen immediately exploded, “What? He has the nerve to harass you? Playing with you as a stand–in and then dumping you wasn’t enough? And now he has the audacity to bother you again?”
