Chapter 77
Chapter 77
The middle–aged woman avoided everyone’s gaze, lowering her head sheepishly, her earlier arrogance completely gone.
Justin stood there with a cold expression, his commanding presence filling the room. He glanced at Emily.
“She’s been bullied again?” he thought.
Emily, still upset, glared back at him with irritation, as if blaming him for the situation.
Justin frowned. “What’s her problem? I wasn’t the one who bullied her,” he muttered to himself.
The branch manager, recalling what happened to his brother–in–law yesterday, was terrified this incident might affect his own position. Panicked, he pulled his wife forward and apologized profusely to Emily.
“Get over here and apologize properly!” the branch manager barked at his wife, grabbing and dragging her without a hint of gentleness.
The middle–aged woman, now fully aware of her mistake and realizing she had insulted the wrong person and caused trouble for her husband, didn’t dare resist. She stumbled awkwardly as her husband dragged her forward.
Emily observed the scene but remained silent. After all, she was the one who had been insulted.
Meanwhile, the other employees, whether they had been spectating or working, wisely left the office, leaving only Justin, Emily, and the branch manager with his wife.
The middle–aged woman finally reached Emily, bowing repeatedly with tears in her eyes. “I’m so sorry. I wasn’t in my right mind. I lashed out and insulted the wrong person. Please forgive me. I didn’t mean to say those things.
“Please, don’t hold it against my husband. This was all my doing. I acted on my own, and it has nothing to do with him!”
The branch manager glared at his wife in frustration. “What a mess. If not for her influential father in Jacksonburg, I’d regret ever marrying her,” he thought.
Justin walked over to Emily, pulling her into his arms protectively, making his stance clear.
He turned a frosty gaze toward the branch manager and said, “Mr. Wood, manage your household properly. This company isn’t your home, where you can act however you please.‘
“You’re absolutely right, Mr. Yates,” the branch manager replied hurriedly, bowing repeatedly. “I’ll ensure my wife learns her lesson and doesn’t cause any more trouble in the office.”
Elbowing his wife in the side, he urged, “Thank Mr. Yates and Miss Yates now!”
The woman snapped back to reality and quickly expressed her gratitude, “Thank you, Mr. Yates. Thank you, Miss Yates!”
With that, the branch manager dragged his wife out of the office, closing the door behind them.
Justin turned his attention back to Emily. Gently pinching her cheek, he teased, “There, she apologized. Don’t be mad anymore. I’ve wrapped up work for now so we can fly back later today. Let me take you somewhere nice to eat.”
Emily turned her face away, avoiding his touch. With a bitter smile, she muttered, “She wasn’t wrong. What’s the difference between me and a mistress? She just mistook me today, but someday, Miss Xander might come and call me out. And she won’t be wrong.”

Justin’s expression darkened. “Emily, can we stop bringing this up?” he snapped, his tone sharp.
“I won’t let you and Emma cross paths. Don’t stir up trouble, either,” he warned.
With the situation settled, Justin instructed Sam, “Book the return flight for tonight.”
“Yes, Mr. Yates,” Sam replied and left to handle the arrangements.
There were still a few hours before sunset, so Justin decided to take Emily out for a meal. He hadn’t eaten lunch, focusing instead on finishing his work so he could spend the afternoon with her.
Although Emily had eaten earlier, the sight and aroma of the beautifully prepared dishes made her hungry again. Justin couldn’t help but find it amusing as he watched Emily focus intently on her food. “I’m the one doing all the work, yet she’s the one enjoying the meal,” he though
