Chapter 87
“Alright, alright, it’s all my fault. Just don’t panic,” Zac tried to calm her down.
How could Helen not panic?
Emily was almost at her place, and Helen had no idea how to explain why she hadn’t come home last night or the fact that she had spent the night with a man.
She threw on her clothes as fast as she could and rushed out the door. Zac drove like a man on a mission, pushing the car to its limits.
When they reached the entrance to Helen’s apartment complex, she didn’t even say goodbye. She leapt out of the car and sprinted inside.
Zac stayed behind, watching her until she disappeared into the building. As he started to reverse out, he spotted Justin’s car.
Justin noticed him too and rolled down his window. The two exchanged a brief nod of acknowledgment.
Helen slowed her pace once she was inside, trying to catch her breath. She stopped by the lobby’s small grocery store to grab a few items, attempting to look as if she had simply been out shopping.
When she stepped out of the elevator, Emily was already waiting outside her door.
“I thought you were home,” Emily said. “I’ve been ringing the bell for ages.”
Feeling a twinge of guilt, Helen held up her bag of groceries. “I just woke up and got hungry, so I went downstairs to grab something to eat. I got you something too. Want some?”
Emily shook her head. “No thanks, I already ate.”
Helen unlocked the door and let Emily in, placing her keys on the shoe cabinet. She handed Emily a drink and sat down with her sandwich, taking small bites. She didn’t know how to bring up what she wanted to say.
Emily sipped her drink, deliberating how to explain her situation with Justin. She couldn’t tell Helen the truth about Justin’s threats. There was no need to drag her friend into this mess. They were just two women, no match for Justin’s power and influence.
“Did last night scare you?” Emily finally asked.
“No… not really,” Helen replied absentmindedly, clearly distracted.
Emily decided to get straight to the point. “When Emma came back, Justin and I fought. He let me go, saying the contract was over. But now he’s brought it back up and refuses to let me leave until it expires. For now, I won’t be able to stay with you.”
“What?” Helen exclaimed, putting down her sandwich. “Justin Yates, a CEO of an international corporation, pulling stunts like this? Shameless!”
She jumped off the couch in frustration. “This won’t do. We’re getting you out of here.”
She grabbed Emily’s hand, but Emily pulled away, sadness flickering across her face.
There’s no use, Helen. Justin’s influence covers the whole city. I can’t get away.”
She had thought about running before. But every time she even bought a plane ticket, Justin would find out and track her down. The Jupiter Land incident was still fresh in her mind.

Unless she used a private jet or risked smuggling herself of Illegally. However, neither of which was an option. She didn’t have access to the former, and the latter was bot prohibited in Haven State and extremely dangerous.
“I’ll talk to my brother!” Helen said, reaching for her phone.
Her brother? Who could possibly outmatch Justin’s power in this city?
Not wanting to crush her hopes, Emily gently stopped her. Don’t waste your energy. It’s only a few months until the contract ends. After that, we’ll leave the country.”
“And what if Justin doesn’t honor his word again?” Helen asked heatedly.
“Then we’ll talk to your brother if it comes to that. Besides Justin is handsome, has a great body, and is one of the most desirable men in Lincourt City. I suppose I’m not really losing out,” Emily said, half–jokingly, trying to comfort Helen and herself.
“Anyway, I’ve already made up my mind. Even if he goes back on his word again, I’m prepared to leave quietly when the time comes.”
