Chapter 89
But the real challenge was figuring out how to escape the ocean without being discovered and make her way abroad. Hiring a team from overseas sounded promising, but could they truly be trusted?
As Emily was wracking her brain over these issues, her phone buzzed.
Unlocking it, she saw a message from Sean. Before she could open it, her phone lit up with an incoming call from
him.
“Emily,” Sean’s voice was soft and reassuring, “I’m sorry for making you worry these past few days. My dad forced me to join a project and took my phone away. I just got it back now that the project’s done.”
“It’s fine as long as you’re okay. I’m sorry for dragging you into this mess,” Emily replied, her tone tinged with guilt.
Sean frowned on the other end of the line. “This has nothing to do with you. It’s all Justin’s fault for being such a jerk! He didn’t hurt you, did he?”
“No,” Emily replied, feigning a lighthearted tone.
It was just that Justin continued to keep her as his mistress, using her whenever he pleased.
That wasn’t something Emily wanted to share with Sean.
Sean didn’t buy it. He couldn’t believe that Justin, who had forcibly taken her away from him, would leave her completely untouched. Sean wasn’t naive and he understood the unspoken dynamics between men and women.
The thought made his blood boil.
Justin had involved his family to pull Sean away, and Sean wasn’t about to let that slide. Others might fear Justin, but Sean certainly didn’t.
“Emily,” Sean said after a pause, “I need to ask you for a favor.‘
“What kind of favor?” she asked, wary of his intentions.
“Come with me to an event,” Sean said, his tone calm yet firm.
Emily hesitated. She didn’t want to get involved in anything that could complicate matters further, especially something that might provoke Justin and disrupt her escape plans.
Sean sensed her reluctance and added, “Emily, don’t you want to leave Justin? I can help you.‘
Sean’s family had the influence and resources to secretly whisk someone out of the city. Emily knew that.
“Okay,” she finally agreed.
Rather than having Sean pick her up, Emily drove herself to a boutique to meet him. After all, it wasn’t like she was going to waste Justin’s car.
At the boutique, Emily picked out a gown and got her makeup done. She left her car there and joined Sean in his to head to the event.
The venue turned out to be a hotel, and as soon as they entered, Emily froze.
It was a Yates family gathering.
Panic surged through her, and she turned to leave, but Sean blocked her path.

“Emily, you’re already here. Don’t you want to see what Justin’s been up to lately?”
“You knew this was a Yates event?” Emily glared at him, her voice edged with anger.
“Yes,” Sean admitted with a nod.
He wanted to take revenge on Justin for humiliating him at Jupiter Land and prove a point. He wanted to show Justin that Emily no longer cared for him. Even if Justin kept her under lock and key, she’d still agree to meet with
him.
“Move aside. I don’t care what Justin’s up to!” Emily snapped, furious at his deception.
In the middle of their exchange, a familiar voice chimed in behind her.
“Emily, you’re here too?”
It was Emma, her tone cheerful as she clung to Justin’s arm, looking radiant and composed.
“Yes, I brought her to the event,” Sean interjected, slipping an arm around Emily’s waist and smirking at Justin in open defiance.
Justin’s expression darkened instantly. His eyes glinted with the promise of a brewing storm as he glared at Emily with unrestrained anger.
Emily, watching Justin and Emma’s display of intimacy, felt a pang of both despair and absurdity.
When would she ever truly break free from him?
