Chapter 90
Under Justin’s intense, stormy gaze, Emily was pulled into the grand banquet hall by Sean.
The birthday banquet for Heidi was a spectacle of wealth and influence, with elites from every corner gathering to
celebrate.
Once inside, Justin didn’t spare Emily even a glance. Instead, he moved seamlessly through the crowd with Emma by his side, introducing her to business associates and relatives alike, cementing their relationship in the eyes of everyone present.
From a distance, Jacob Yates was casually sipping from his glass of red wine as his gaze roamed over Emma’s figure, a faint smirk playing on his lips and a glint of amusement in his eyes.
Nearby, guests were effusive in their praise, calling Justin and Emma a perfect match and marveling at Emma’s good fortune to secure the attention of the president of RC Corporation.
Emily, however, paid no attention to the chatter. Her focus was entirely on the slice of cake before her, savoring its sweetness.
Sean, on the other hand, was keenly attuned to the whispers. Worried that Emily might still harbor feelings for Justin, he leaned closer and asked tentatively, “Does it bother you, seeing Justin parade Emma around like that? Are you jealous?”
Emily shot him a glance. “Do I look like I care?” she replied flatly.
She then lifted her plate of cake, and brought it close to her nose for a sniff. “Hmm, grape–flavored,” she silently remarked. She scooped a bite with her spoon, popped it into her mouth, and her eyes lit up with delight. Delicious,” she muttered.
Sean’s expression faltered for a moment. He had hoped bringing her to this banquet might stir something in her, but it seemed all he had managed to do was annoy her further.
Zac noticed Emily enjoying her dessert. Surprised to see her at the banquet, he walked over to greet her.
“Hi Emily and Sean,” Zac said with a polite nod.
Emily and Sean both nodded back. Zac exchanged a few pleasantries before moving on to mingle with others in the
room.
As the banquet progressed to its highlight, Justin took the stage alongside Emma and Heidi for a toast and speech. Meanwhile, Emily, having had too much to drink, decided to find the restroom.
“Sean, wait here for me. I’ll be back shortly,” she said casually.
“Sure,” Sean replied.
Emily left the banquet hall and headed to the restroom. After freshening up, she bent down to wash her hands. As she reached for a disposable towel, she caught sight of a man’s figure in the mirror.
“Ah!” she yelped, startled.
Before she could react further, Justin was behind her, one hand clamping over her mouth.
His voice was low and menacing as he hissed in her ear, “Emily, how many times do I have to warn you to stay away from Sean? Do you ever listen?”
Emily struggled, shaking her head frantically as her hands clawed at his to free herself.
Chapter 90
After a moment, Justin released her with a sudden force. Emily stumbled forward, catching herself on the sink and coughing to steady her breath.
“Justin, there’s nothing between Sean and me. I only see him as a younger brother. Can you stop bringing him up and targeting him?” she pleaded, referring to the incident at Jupiter Land.
“You’re still defending him?” Justin growled through clenched teeth. His face twisted with rare fury, veins bulging as his bloodshot eyes bore into hers.
Emily suddenly felt a chill of fear.
“I’m telling you now,” he growled, each word dripping with finality, “you will not see Sean again. At least not while the contract stands.”
Back in the main hall, Heidi was seated with her friends, chatting about family life and children. Emma, however, couldn’t find a way to join the conversation. Heidi’s subtle yet intentional dismissal made her feel unwelcome.
Feeling out of place, Emma excused herself and decided to look for Justin. He had disappeared shortly after their speech ended, leaving her searching the crowd.
