Chapter 93
Zac placed some of the food residue in a bag for testing and instructed the hotel staff to clean up the mess on the
floor.
“How’s my mom?” Justin asked, his worry evident.
“She’s out of danger for now but we’ll need to put her on an IV drip shortly.,” Zac replied, his tone reassuring.
Hearing this, Justin finally exhaled in relief.
“It appears to be poisoning, but we’ll need to test the food residue at the hospital to confirm,” Zac said, expression grave. “From her symptoms, it seems like organophosphate poisoning.”
“Organophosphate? You mean… pesticide?”
“Yes. Fortunately, the dose she ingested was small enough to allow for rescue.”
“Who could be so malicious as to try and kill Heidi?” Stella blurted out.
“Can’t you keep quiet?” Justin’s uncle, Harry Yates, shot her a warning glare.
Stella scoffed and rolled her eyes at her husband but didn’t press further.

At that moment, the ambulance arrived at the hotel. The sirens were turned off to avoid drawing attention, and the medical team entered discreetly through the back entrance. Sam accompanied the medics to the room.
After a thorough examination confirmed that Heidi was stable, the medical team set up an IV for her.
“Sam,” Justin instructed, his voice low but firm, “take the wine glass my mother drank from, along with the food residue, to the hospital for analysis. Also, retrieve the security footage from that time. Publicly, we’ll say my mother simply drank too much and had a stomach upset.
“Yes, Mr. Yates.” Sam left the room promptly, followed by the medical team carrying the evidence.
Heidi, now conscious, weakly leaned back against the headboard. “I’m fine. I’m sorry to have worried all of you.‘
Justin approached the bedside, his expression still clouded with worry.
Emma stepped forward and stood next to Justin, her head slightly lowered as if lost in thought. Then, almost hesitantly, she murmured, “I vaguely recall that before Heidi sat on the sofa, Emily was sitting there.”
“What?” Stella exclaimed in shock. “Could it have been Emily who poisoned her? Maybe she’s taking revenge on Heidi because Justin dumped her?”
Justin’s sharp gaze snapped toward Stella, his eyes cold and piercing. Startled by his menacing glare, she fell silent immediately.
Standing half a step behind Justin, Emma obediently kept her head down, pretending not to hear Stella’s accusation. She feigned ignorance, acting as if she didn’t understand the complicated relationship between Justin and Emily.
Heidi’s face darkened with anger. Moments ago, she had been praising Emily, and now this? Had Emily really been holding a grudge against Justin and turned her anger on her?
“Bring her here,” Heidi demanded furiously.
Zac, standing to the side, frowned as he replayed Emma’s words in his mind. Was she deliberately framing Emily?
Emma stood beside Justin, her delicate frame radiating innocence. But the slight tilt of her head and the glint in

her eyes betrayed a trace of satisfaction.
“I thought Emily was decent,” Heidi fumed, “but it turns out she’s harboring such venomous intentions. Truly a girl raised without a mother’s guidance!” Heidi lashed out angrily, her voice trembling with emotion.
Justin’s expression turned icy as he cast a disapproving glance at his mother. Stunned by his reaction, Heidi abruptly stopped speaking.
Her frustration only grew as her eyes fell on Emma standing demurely behind her son. Heidi let out a heavy sigh, turning away as if to block out the sight of someone so aggravating.
“Let’s not jump to conclusions,” Zac interjected. “If we accuse the wrong person and let the real culprit escape, that wouldn’t help bring justice for you, Aunt Heidi.”
Knowing Emily’s desire to distance herself from Justin, Zac found it highly unlikely that she would act out of spite against Heidi.
Zac understood this, and he was sure Justin did too.
He glanced at Justin, who sat in silence on the chair by the bedside, his expression unreadable.
Surely he wouldn’t believe Emma’s insinuations, would he?
