Emily left the restroom, thinking about Justin’s promise to arrange a car for her to leave. She didn’t want to stay at the party any longer and decided to wait quietly in a corner while texting Sean to let him know she was heading
out.
As she waited, she noticed a group of people hurriedly carrying someone away from the area where she had been sitting earlier. The distance made it hard to see who it was, but she didn’t give it much thought.
Bored, Emily continued waiting. Before Sam contacted her about the car, Sean appeared instead.
“Why are you leaving so early, Emily? Are you still mad at me for tricking you into coming? I didn’t mean to upset you. I just didn’t want you clinging to Justin!” Sean’s voice was full of concern.
Emily had been angry earlier, but her frustration had subsided. In truth, it was the hope of escaping Justin’s grasp that had lured her here. She now realized that leaving would be something she had to figure out on her own.
“I don’t enjoy events like this, and I don’t have work obligations to justify being here,” she replied plainly.
“Wait for me, then. I’ll say my goodbyes and take you home,” Sean offered sincerely.
“There’s no need. You should stay. There’s already a car…”
“Miss Yates,” Sam interrupted before she could finish. “Mr Yates wants to see you.”
Emily assumed it was about the car and followed him without hesitation. Sean, however, wasn’t as trusting and quickly caught up.
Instead of heading to the parking lot, Sam led her upstairs, stopping outside a room.
“Miss Yates, please.”
Emily hesitated, suspicious. If Justin wanted her to leave, why call her upstairs? Still, Sam had brought her here, so there was no mistake. She reached for the door handle, only for Sean to grab her arm.
“I’m coming with you, Emily,” Sean said, his concern evident. Justin summoning her to a private room could only mean trouble. Sean wasn’t about to let Emily face Justin alone.
Sam stepped in, placing a firm hand on Sean’s wrist. “Mr. Yates requested Miss Yates alone. Don’t make trouble for yourself, Mr. Smith.”
“You…”
“Sean, it’s fine. I can handle it,” Emily reassured him.
Inside the room, Justin’s brows furrowed as he caught faint murmurs outside the door. His sharp, piercing gaze shifted toward the entrance, as though he could bore through it and pin Sean with a deadly glare.
“Well, well,” Stella said with a mocking tone, clearly enjoying the unfolding drama. “Emily’s already found -herself a new man. That was quick.”
The door opened, cutting off her comment. Emily stepped in, quickly taking stock of the scene. Inside the room, Justin, Emma, and the Yates family were gathered, their expressions heavy with tension.
Emily’s eyes flickered as she took in the scene, her instincts kicking in. “What’s going on here?” she thought.
Moments earlier, the security footage had been reviewed. It confirmed that Emily had lingered at the sofa area for a while before leaving. Shortly after, Heidi and a group of socialites had occupied the same spot.
“Emily, we’ve never had any grudges in the past or present, so why would you poison me?” Heidi’s sharp glare

locked onto Emily, her voice rising with anger. Her flushed face revealed her barely contained fury.
Heidi remembered the glance her son had given her earlier. To protect his reputation, she chose to bury any mention of his past with Emily, acting as if their relationship had never happened.
“Poison? What poison?” Emily responded, confused.
Seeing Heidi lying on the bed hooked up to IV medication, Emily’s mind pieced it together.
Was Heidi the person who had been carried away earlier?
Heidi had been poisoned?
“You’re the only one who lingered by the sofa before me! Who else could it be? Only you had the time and opportunity to poison me!” Heidi snapped, her certainty unwavering.
