At the bottom of the stairs, Alex stopped and looked at the approaching Haley in frustration. “I’m warning you, Haley. Don’t follow me.”
Haley shouted, “If you don’t apologize properly, we’re breaking up.”
Alex sneered, “I was born not knowing how to apologize.”
“What’s going on with you two?” Nancy came out of her room, noticing the fierce argument between them.
“Nancy,” Haley cried as soon as she saw Nancy.
Sensing the seriousness of the situation, Nancy pulled Haley aside and stopped Alex. The three of them went to the living room, with Haley unable to stop crying.
Nancy noticed an injury on Alex’s head and asked about it, but he didn’t explain. As Haley was so upset, Nancy asked Alex what happened, and he didn’t respond either.
“Haley, if he won’t tell me, you let me know, okay? What exactly happened?” Nancy patiently comforted Haley for a while until she finally stopped crying.
Holding Nancy’s hand, Haley began crying again, feeling wronged. “Nancy, I went abroad to surprise Alex, but I caught him cheating with Ellie.”
“Haley Owens!” Alex jumped up from the couch, shouting, “Stop making up stories here.”
“Who do you think you are to shout around, you little punk.” Nancy gave Alex a sharp look, then turned to Haley with confidence. “You’ve misunderstood. That can’t be true.”
Haley couldn’t believe Nancy would just dismiss her words without checking the facts. Feeling wronged, she stood up an softened her tone. “I saw them with my own eyes. If you don’t believe me, there’s nothing I can do.
“Since Alex’s heart isn’t with me anymore, I think it’s best we dont continue this. I’ll tell my parents everything and return the engagement gifts and jewelry.”
After speaking her mind, Haley left the Warren Manor in tears.
Nancy marched up to Alex and slapped him hard. She was so angry her hand was shaking. “Explain yourself clearly. What is going on? Is what Haley said true?”
Alex’s head turned to the side from the slap. He pressed his tongue against his cheek and let out a cold snort.
Nancy pointed at Alex, her anger boiling over. “When Carlos set you up with Diana, we asked if you liked Ellie. We said we’d get her ready to be your wife if you did. What did you say back then?”
Nancy paused for a moment. “You said you didn’t want Ellie because you thought she was ugly, too timid, and a crybaby. Now that you’re engaged to Haley, don’t tell me you regret it?”
Alex spoke irritably, “After Ellie and I parted ways yesterday, she was suddenly kidnapped. I saved her and, and to avoid being followed or retaliated against, I booked a room at a nearby hotel. That’s all there is to it.”

“I was injured, and Ellie was terrified. What improper thing could we have possibly done?” Alex–sheered and started walking towards the staircase.
Nancy said, “It’s not that I don’t trust Ellie; it’s you, you little troublemaker, that I can’t rely on. You don’t have to take over the company immediately, but you need to marry Haley and have kids soon.”
Alex stopped and said, “I’ll get married, but not now. Also,” he paused and added firmly, “I’m never going to have kids in this lifetime. I’m living child–free.”
Haley, who had been hiding outside, was stunned for a good while after hearing what Alex said. She realized that Alex had never thought of having kids with her.
After leaving the Warren Manor, she stood by the roadside for a while to calm down. She couldn’t let this chance go. She had to firmly pin Ellie as the “other woman.”
She wanted Alex and Ellie to always face the judgmental stares of others, never able to be close again, And she aimed to use this chance to find a way to live with Alex and get pregnant with his child as soon as possible.
Picking up her phone, Haley called Lacey and some other friends to set up a get–together. Early the next morning, Haley stopped Aaron right at the entrance of the prosecutor’s office.
