She hadn’t taken a few steps toward the residential area when she was stopped by Haley at the entrance. Ellie stopped in her tracks, not a moment of peace for her.
Ellie looked steadily at the furious Haley.
Haley shook her phone in her hand. “No matter how you seduce him, with just one call from me, he will leave you and come to me.”
“Ellie, I suggest you give up on Alex as soon as possible and hand over the evidence you have. For old times‘ sake, I can still save you some face,” she continued.
“Who saves face for whom is yet to be seen,” Ellie said. “Dream on about the evidence.”
After speaking, Ellie walked straight into the residential area.
Haley stood in place, her resentful eyes fixed on Ellie’s retreating figure. She had just happened to pass by and witnessed the scene of Alex and Ellie entangled by the roadside.
Ellie was so resistant, constantly dodging and struggling, but Alex kept pulling her towards him, as if he wanted to embrace
her.
Even from such a distance, she could feel the way Alex looked at Ellie, a man’s look at a woman, with ambiguity mixed with restraint, control laced with loss of control.
Thinking about the things the Thompson siblings held and that collar chain, Haley felt an inexplicable panic rise in her heart.
She couldn’t allow Ellie to get close to Alex anymore; she needed to find a way to destroy that evidence as soon as possible.

A few days later, Ellie was at work when Alex burst into the examination room. Seeing this, the nurse quickly took the patient to another room.
With a loud bang, Alex kicked the door of the examination room shut.
He approached Ellie and suddenly grabbed her by the neck, pinning her against the wall. “You and Aaron claimed that as long as Haley didn’t bother you, that evidence wouldn’t leak out.”

After a momentary blank in her mind, Ellie suddenly remembered one day when Lucy said her son had a fever, her phone was about to run out of battery, and she wanted to borrow Ellie’s phone to make a call.
Then Lucy asked her for 300 dollars in cash. During that time, she had just gone to the bathroom for a while.

Alex was determined to force Ellie to clarify for Haley. “You have no say in this matter. If anything happens to Haley because of you, I won’t let you off the hook.”
Suddenly, there was a sound of bones dislocating. Ellie’s wrist dislocated, and she groaned in pain. Alex’s heart tightened, and he quickly released her.
Tears of grievance kept welling up in her eyes. Ellie kept retreating.
