Alex took a step towards Ellic, and she retreated two steps back.
Meeting Ellie’s wary gaze, Alex stopped. He stared intently at Ellie’s injured wrist, unable to hide the heartache in his eyes. His voice involuntarily softened. “I’ll call a doctor”
As soon as Alex left the examination room, Ellie picked up her phone and resolutely called the police.
It was working hours and at her workplace; her assault and injury should be considered an occupational injury. Even if she requested hospitalization, she should be entitled to hospital subsidies and compensation from Alex.
Additionally, it would allow the police to investigate the malicious forwarding of evidence on her phone.
A few hours later, after a full body check, Ellie was admitted to a hospital room.
Seeing the nurse come in to take her temperature, Ellie was about to get up when she keenly noticed Alex entering the room. She closed her eyes and lay back down.
A few hours earlier, the police had collected evidence, all pointing towards her. Those materials were indeed forwarded from her phone to her colleague Lucy’s phone.
Now, Lucy insisted that it was Ellie who had instructed the dissemination of that “evidence.” The 300 dollars Lucy had borrowed from her had instead become evidence against her.
From the day Ellie started her internship at Jaslands Hospital, Lucy Woodard was the first person to initiate a conversation with her. Lucy had also taken care of her while studying abroad. She never dreamed that Lucy would do such a thing.
That day, Lucy deliberately took advantage of the lunch break to pull her into the restroom, where there were no surveillance cameras or other people, leaving her with no defense.
Although she was certain that everything was related to Haley, Lucy firmly claimed not to know Haley at all.
Now, she couldn’t produce evidence to prove her innocence, and she lacked the energy to argue with him, nor could she win the argument.

The nurse said, “The full examination results will only be available tomorrow. I’ll take Dr. Thompson’s temperature first.” Alex’s gaze unconsciously fixed on Ellie’s slender face, and he sat down, supporting Ellie to lean against his chest. “Go ahead.” After taking Ellie’s temperature, the nurse quickly left the room.
After the nurse left, Alex held Ellie and sat by the bedside for a long time before laying her down. Ellie, with her eyes closed, breathed a sigh of relief.
Alex sat by the bedside, one hand propped beside Ellie and the other gently holding her injured hand.
He just stared at Ellie like that.
After an unknown amount of time, he said, “When we were children, you were so strong, you could fall and roll three times on the ground without complaining about the pain.”

doll.”
Alex applied a little more pressure with his finger on Ellie’s lips. His Adam’s apple involuntarily rolled up and down. Suddenly, the image of Ellie’s bloodied face when she was injured flashed through Alex’s mind. He carefully touched Ellie’s cheek with his fingertips. “It hurts a lot, doesn’t it?”
