Layton continued, “If he’s not here, how will you take the family photo later? What will others think?”
Ellie smirked and said after a pause, I don’t care.
She’d barely keeping herself together; she didn’t have time to worry about anything else.
She actually hoped Alex wouldn’t show up tonight, so the adoption process could go smoothly. Just then, Nancy came over. Seeing Layton’s expression, she knew that Alex hadn’t been found. Nancy turned to Evan, the butler, and asked, “Is there any news from the people who went out?”
Evan replied, “They haven’t reported back yet.”
Nancy said, “We can’t wait for Alex any longer. Let’s stick to the schedule.”
At 8:30 p.m., the most important part of the banquet began.
