Haley cried her heart out, “Please, I’m begging you, Alex. I’m afraid my parents are still waiting to hear back from me!”
Alex looked down. “Do you really want my help?”
Haley pleaded, “I’m begging you!”
Alex said, “I’ll help you, but I have conditions.”
Seeing Alex relent, Haley eagerly nodded. “I’ll agree to any condition as long as you can save Ethan!”
After a moment of silence, Alex finally spoke, “Do you remember when you saved me and took that hit for me?”
When Alex suddenly mentioned the rescue, Haley lowered her head in guilt. “I told you. I was really sick and don’t remember much.”
Alex said, “That injection is a toxin that ruins the human reproductive system. Once injected, a person can never have kids for the rest of their life, no matter if they are male or female.”
Haley’s pupils shrank drastically. She thought, ‘If this is true, then Ellie can never have children in her lifetime. It’s truly poetic justice!‘
Alex said, “There are so many ways I could repay you. It doesn’t have to mean being with you. The reason I’m doing this is because I’m worried your future marriage won’t be happy.
“When I said no children, it’s also because I feared you’d be upset knowing you can’t have any.”
“Alex, since you know how much I’ve sacrificed for you, shouldn’t you make it up to me?”
Haley took the chance to speak, “Because of you, I can’t have children for the rest of my life. Can you really stand to see something happen to Ethan again?”
Their eyes met. Alex said, “Haley, you better not try to guilt–trip me. I’m giving you two choices. Either I stick by you completely, or we break up and I promise your brother will stay safe!”
“No way!” Haley understood Alex’s plan and erupted. “How can you use something like this to pressure me to break up? How can you be so mean?”
Alex said, “Did I ever say I was a nice guy?
“If you agree, I’ll pay all the expenses for the victims‘ families, including burial costs, and also give you some money. I’ll protect Ethan’s life, and we’ll break up, and then we’re done with each other.
“Think it over carefully. Once you’ve made up your mind, call me.”
After Alex finished speaking, he left the new room.
With the door closing behind her, Haley collapsed weakly onto the floor.
He was in such a rush to break up with her, only wanting a reason to openly get closer to that lousy woman Ellie, wanting to be with her without any worries.
She had already broken up with Aaron; she was not going to let go of Alex.

Ellie had a restless night and got up early. As she walked downstairs to get a glass of water, she saw Alex coming back from outside.
He left her room around two in the morning, and he returned before it was even six.
She thought his running around instead of sleeping in the middle of the night seemed a little strange.
Seeing Alex heading towards her, Ellie turned towards the kitchen to get some water.
Alex approached the dining room door, his tired eyes focused on Ellie. “You stayed up so late last night; why not sleep a bit longer?”
Ellie turned around. “You were just with your wife a few hours ago. Are you sure she’s okay with you coming back this soon?”
