Their eyes met, and the air instantly became tense.
Alex held back as he went to take Ellie’s hand. When he saw a clear bruise on her wrist, his expression tightened. “Did I hurt you last night?”
He didn’t even use any force. Just a touch left a mark on her skin.
Looking at Ellie’s accusing glare made him feel like a total creep.
Alex was clearly hesitant to speak, staring at Ellie for what felt like ages before he finally said, “Ellie, don’t talk to me like that!”
Every time Ellie called him “Alex” with that icy look, it made him crazy.
“Got it, Alex. I’ll be more careful next time.” Ellie retorted, pulling her hand away forcefully and leaving the dining room.
Behind her, Alex was furious, his face turning a dangerous shade as his eyes locked onto Ellie’s retreating figure.
Around seven in the morning, Haley picked up Aaron outside his apartment building. “How’s Ethan’s case going?”
Aaron seemed to have expected Haley to come looking for him, and he calmly replied, “If you want an update on the case, talk to your attorney.”
Haley swallowed her pride and pleaded, “Aaron, when I decided to be with you back then, I truly liked you. For the sake of how much I used to like you, can you let Ethan go?”
“Sorry, but I can’t compromise my professional ethics for anyone.” Aaron firmly refused Haley and then walked away. Haley stood still, watching Aaron’s indifferent back as he left, her face full of discomfort.
Back then, she fell hard for Aaron at first sight, and she really did like him. She just couldn’t handle the struggles of being with him, the pressure from her parents, or the judgmental looks from her family and friends.
She simply chose the life she wanted after weighing the pros and cons. She thought that she didn’t do anything wrong.
She thought, ‘Why does breaking up mean Aaron treats me like an enemy?‘
At noon, Ellie was resting in the lounge when Haley came straight up to her.
Haley didn’t look well. “Ellie, we need to talk,” she said.
Ellie didn’t respond. She sat in the massage chair and turned it on.
Thinking about Ethan still being held in the detention center, Haley controlled her feelings and said, “Ellie, I know we’ve had many misunderstandings before, and I’ve already apologized.
“Now Ethan’s case is in your brother’s hands. I hope you can talk to him and ask him not to be too strict!”
