He had just said that if she didn’t provoke him, he wouldn’t harm Aaron.
In truth, he was eager to get rid of Aaron for good.
His love for Haley was blinding, and she felt completely helpless, unable even to fight back.
The only thing she could do now was ask the elders of the Warren family to intervene and keep Alex in check to ensure Aaron’s safety.

“What a brute!” Just as Alex was about to forcibly drag Ellie to his room to change her clothes, Nancy came in, followed by Todd and Layton.
Seeing Alex lay a hand on Ellie, Nancy immediately raised her hand and slapped him. “Your dad and I are still alive. How dare you bully your sister like this!”
Alex dodged Nancy’s slap and stepped back, pointing at his forehead. “See, she hit me first!”
Todd remarked, “Don’t we know what you’re like?”
“Me?” Alex was nearly choked by his father’s words.
“If you have something to say, just say it. No need to shout.” Layton pulled Alex back to the couch, turned to the cabinet to find the first aid kit, and then looked at Ellie. “Ellie, quickly, help stop his bleeding.”
Ellie looked calmly at Nancy and Todd, then turned to Alex.
The two exchanged glances, and Alex gritted his teeth. “Ellie, you better have a really good explanation, or else—”
“Or else what?” Nancy grabbed Ellie with one hand and pointed at Alex with the other, unleashing a flurry of slaps. “You little brat, how dare you bully Ellie!”
“Mom.” Ellie pulled Nancy aside and opened the first aid kit.
She didn’t bring everyone here in the middle of the night just to see Nancy scold Alex.
Although Nancy was harsh with her words and actions, it was obvious that she cared deeply for her son.
Whether Alex liked it or not, Ellie quickly cleaned and bandaged his wounds, not even bothering to cut the gauze and just wrapping the whole roll around his head.
Putting down the medical tape, Ellie stood up and said, “Dad, Mom, I urgently called you here to ask for your help with my brother!”
Nancy stood up and walked over to Ellie, and asked, “Ellie, what’s wrong with your brother?”
With tears in her eyes, Ellie looked at Alex and said, “Haley’s brother was involved in a drunk driving accident that resulted in a death, then fled and is suspected of murder. My brother is handling the case.”

Ellie pointed at Alex and said, “But he forced my brother to resign for Haley, to change jobs, and when my brother wouldn’t give in, he hired someone to try and kill him!”
“Ellie, shut the hell up!” Alex jumped up, pointing at Ellie. “When did I ever make your brother quit or change jobs, or hire someone to come after him?”
Ellie said, “My brother’s already hurt and in the hospital. If Ms. Grant didn’t have a gun tonight, he wouldn’t have made it, and it would have been your doing!”
Alex replied, “You claim I did it, but where’s your evidence?”
Ellie exclaimed, “Haley herself said you promised her you’d spare her brother!”
As soon as Ellie finished speaking, the room fell into an eerie silence.
Even Layton took a moment to process what Ellie had just said.
Alex saw disbelief in his parents‘ eyes, then looked at Ellie’s angry face. Losing control, he grabbed her shoulders. “I told you before, and you still don’t believe me?”
Ellie retorted, “I’d rather believe you’d do anything for Haley!”
Alex replied, “Even if I protect her, am I really crazy enough to take your brother’s life because of her?”
Ellie shot back, “Haven’t you already gone crazy doing things for her?”
Ellie continued, “I’ve lived under the same roof with you for over a decade, called you ‘Alex‘ just as long, always listened to you. You’d push me into the river for Haley; what does my brother mean to you?”
