In the dining room, three pairs of eyes simultaneously turned to Alex.
He hadn’t even set down the fork he had just snapped in half. His face clouded with anger, Alex stood up abruptly and stormed out. The remaining three exchanged puzzled glances.
Ellie paid no attention to Alex’s sudden outburst. After finishing her breakfast, she went upstairs to get ready for work.

When Ellie entered the bedroom, she found Alex sitting at the edge of her bed, his face dark and brooding. She frowned slightly. “What’s the matter?”
Alex didn’t move. His piercing gaze remained locked on her.

Ellie could feel the tension radiating from him, but she chose to ignore it. Turning away, she walked into the living room to grab her phone and bag.
“Are you dating Mark?” Alex’s voice suddenly broke the silence from behind her.
Ellie turned to see him standing at the bedroom door. Her lips curled into a faint smirk before she walked out of the room without a word.
‘My personal life has nothing to do with you. You have no right to ask, and I’m not obligated to answer,’ she thought coldly.
Watching Ellie leave so indifferently, not even sparing him a single extra word, Alex’s frustration boiled over. He punched the wall in fury.

Two days later, Ellie stopped by Encounter Bar for her part–time job. She took the chance to inform Whitney that she’d be out of town for work and wouldn’t be able to come by for a while.
By the time Ellie removed her makeup and changed clothes, it was around 12:30 a.m. when she stepped out of the bar.
She was using a ride–hailing app on her phone as she walked when she accidentally bumped into a girl.
“Sorry,” Ellie quickly apologized, stepping aside to make room on the sidewalk.
The girl, with long dyed yellow hair, flipped her hair dismissively and shot Ellie a glare. “Are you blind or what?”
As the girl flipped her hair, Ellie’s pupils constricted sharply. Around her neck was that necklace, the very one Ellie had lost.
Without thinking, Ellie reached out, her hand moving toward the necklace around the girl’s neck.
The blonde girl noticed and panicked, immediately turning to run.
“Stop right there!” Ellie yelled, chasing after her across the street. Who are you? Why is that necklace on you?” she demanded while running.
On the other side of the street, Ellie managed to grab the girl’s collar, attempting to yank the necklace off. The girl fought back fiercely.
In the scuffle, the girl flung her takeout at Ellie, grabbed the necklace from her neck, stuffed it into her bra, and continued struggling.

The blonde girl had been wearing pajamas, carrying late–night snacks, and traveling on foot. She probably lived nextty. Ellie was certain she’d run into her again.
Reaching into her bag, Ellie pulled out a pen and some paper, quickly sketching the girl’s facial features while they were will fresh in her memory.
