Haley’s hair was a mess, clumps of it torn out, her face swollen and bruised, her lips misshapen. When she saw her parents and the bodyguards arrive, a glimmer of confidence returned to her.
She hugged herself and began crying, her words slurred due to her swollen mouth. “Mom, you’re finally here! Diana and Ellie teamed up to bully me.”
Evelyn, trying to hold back her anger, pulled some clothes out of her handbag. “Put on these clothes and leave here for now. I’ll make sure you get justice tomorrow.”
“Justice can be served, but you’re not getting these clothes.” Diana stepped forward arrogantly, snatched the clothes and handbag from Evelyn’s hands, then turned and tossed them to Ellie.
Without a second thought, Ellie threw the clothes onto the floor at Layton’s feet. Layton, who was talking to Patrick, casually nudged the clothes with his foot, deliberately stepping on them as if it didn’t matter.
The members of the Grant family, witnessing Layton’s actions, pretended they hadn’t seen anything.
Evelyn glanced at Patrick and Mark in the living room and then at Alex, who was passed out on the bed, and finally couldn’t hold back. “Why are you doing this to Haley?
“Give the clothes back right now, or don’t blame me for getting rough with you.”
“Mrs. Warren, did you hear that? They’re threatening me right in front of my brothers.” Diana shrieked, drawing everyone’s attention to the door.
Ellie saw Nancy and Todd walk in, and, nervously, she stepped forward.
Nancy, spotting Ellie, was clearly surprised. “Ellie, what are you doing here?”
Ellie hesitated. “I…”
“It’s my fault, Mrs. Warren. I asked Ellie to come with me to help me feel braver,” Diana quickly jumped in to explain.
Then, Diana pulled Nancy into the bedroom, pointing at Haley. “Mrs. Warren, no matter what, Alex and I aren’t officially broken off. He’s openly brought a woman into his private suite. Isn’t that embarrassing the Grant family?”
Haley’s eyes shifted nervously when she saw Nancy, and she quickly denied the accusations. “Mrs. Warren, I didn’t do anything! Alex just got drunk, and I stayed to take care of him. Ms. Grant misunderstood.”
Slap! Nancy slapped Haley hard across the face.
Haley, holding her face, screamed in protest. “I’m not lying! I stayed just to take care of Alex!”
Slap! Nancy slapped her again.
Haley, now losing control, shouted, “So what if Alex and I are involved? We’re privately engaged. We can love who we want. Are you going to control that too?”
Evelyn rushed to stand behind Haley, furious, and stepped forward. “Mrs. Warren, while the Owens family may not be the top–tier aristocracy, we’re still a respected family. Don’t push us too far.”
Evelyn continued, “When Haley got together with Alex, you approved of it. You even gave Haley an engagement gift and promised to break off the engagement with the Grant family. That’s why we agreed.”

She went on, “Besides, Haley’s already living in Alex’s new house, and you approved of that too.”
Evelyn’s voice grew more forceful. “Even if there’s been some misunderstanding, and you’re not happy with Haley, Alex is deeply in love with her. Whether Haley is here to take care of him or sleep with him, it’s their personal matter.”
She took a deep breath. “But let’s face it, there can only be one daughter–in–law in the Warren family. Since Patrick and Winnie are here today, we should make everything clear once and for all”
Mark spoke up. “Mrs. Warren, since things have come this far, let’s settle this matter once and for all.”
Diana chimed in, “Mark is right. I won’t let them push me around.”
Haley stood tall. “If that’s the case, let Alex choose. I’m not going to take this humiliation lying down.”
Logan, a touch defiant, said, “The Owens family might not be a top–tier aristocrat, but in Jaslands, we’re an influential family. My daughter has been bullied like this, and we demand an explanation today.”
“Alright, since everyone wants a resolution, let’s settle this once and for all,” Nancy said, stepping toward the bed. All eyes turned toward Alex, who lay motionless on the large bed.
Nancy looked at Ellie and asked, “Ellie, is there any way to wake him up?”
Ellie responded, “There’s no special trick. If the pain is intense enough, he’ll wake up.”
Before Ellie finished speaking, Nancy grabbed a pinch of soft flesh under Alex’s armpit and twisted it forcefully.
