In the dark of the night, on the sidewalk, the two locked eyes.
“She stole my wallet,” Ellie replied casually, brushing it off.
If the worst–case scenario came to pass, she wasn’t sure how she’d handle it. Just the thought of it was unbearable. She’d worked so hard to forget, so hard to keep going. She couldn’t believe fate would be so cruel.
“Let’s go back,” Alex said, not pressing further. Ellie said nothing more.
The two of them drove back in silence, each lost in their own thoughts.
When the car pulled into Warren Manor and came to a stop, Ellie opened the door and got out.
Alex sat in the backseat, watching her figure disappear into the distance, his gaze narrowing. “Find that woman before tomorrow night.”

Barry glanced at the picture of the blonde girl that Alex had sent on his phone and opened the door for him. “I’ll take care of it right now.”

The following morning, just before 11 AM, on the fifth–floor balcony of an ordinary apartment building near Encounter Bar, Haley looked coldly at the trembling mother and daughter in front of her. “You see. If I had come any later, you’d have been in their hands.”
Haley deliberately gave a menacing threat. “That necklace is connected to a high–profile murder case and a vast fortune. Whoever possesses it will face certain death. I suggest you keep quiet about it; no matter what, even if there’s a knife at your throat, you must never admit to seeing it.”
“Ms. Owens, please help us!” Amelia, in a state of shock, dropped to her knees with a thud, clutching Haley’s hands in desperation. “I was just foolish for picking it up and letting my daughter wear it. We never meant to steal from you.”
“Amelia, you’ve worked for our family for twenty years. How could I possibly turn my back on you?” Haley replied with feigned sympathy. “I can risk everything to get you both out of Jaslands, but you have to promise not to come back.”
Haley tossed a check onto the floor. Amelia quickly scrambled to pick it up. “Ms. Owens, don’t worry. We’ll hide far away and
never return.”
A satisfied smile tugged at the corner of Haley’s lips as she handed the blonde girl a pair of binoculars. “Take another good look. The people in your house right now want you dead. If you see them, make sure to stay as far away as possible.”
The blonde girl was completely stunned, obediently accepting the binoculars and peering into the living room of the neighboring building.
Suddenly, there was a loud slap, and the binoculars dropped from her hands.
Haley asked, “What’s going on?”
The girl’s eyes went wide, and she gasped, “That man… he seems to have spotted us.”
Haley’s expression turned pale with shock, and she cursed under her breath. “Idiot! Move it!”

Chapter 260
A few minutes later, Haley watched as the car carrying Amelia and her daughter sped out of the neighborhood, leaving the black sedan trailing behind.
Just when Haley thought she had shaken off the black sedan, a long black Bentley suddenly barreled through the security gate of the community. The car shot up from behind, swerved, and came straight at Haley’s vehicle, slamming into the front with a deafening bang.
Bang! Haley had no time to brake and collided head–on.
By the time she regained her senses and tried to reverse, she found the rear blocked by another car.
Shaken, Haley reached for the car door to get out when she saw the black Bentley’s door swing open. Alex stepped out from the driver’s seat.
