Alex leaned on his desk, raking his hands through his hair in frustration. After a long pause, he picked up the internal phone and dialed.
Moments later, a man in his thirties wearing a suit and glasses rushed into the room. “Mr. Warren.”
Alex got straight to the point. “I will transfer you from the board secretary position to the president’s chief assistant. The title may be lower, but I’ll double your salary.”
Chris nodded. “Okay, Mr. Warren.”
Just then, Barry approached and leaned in, whispering, “Mr. Warren, Haley was secretly sent by her family to Ameria for
treatment.”
A mocking laugh escaped Alex’s lips as he glanced at Chris. “Before the end of the day, I want all the materials related to Owens Group, including the companies that have long–term partnerships with them.”
Later that evening, as Ellie was organizing things, Lacey rushed into the office. “Ellie, I’ve got great news.” Lacey rubbed her hands excitedly. “I just heard from Aaron–Owens Group is done for.”
Lacey continued, “News just broke that Haley’s brother is in prison, and Haley herself is in rehab for drug addiction abroad. Owens Group’s stock dropped drastically in just an hour.
“Several long–term partners have pulled their investments and canceled contracts. In just a few days, Owens Group will have to declare bankruptcy. From now on, Haley won’t be able to show her face in front of us again.”
Ellie, pleased with the turn of events, could guess who was behind it. Sometimes, using evil to fight evil was the quickest and most effective method.
“Ellie, let’s celebrate. You’re off tomorrow, right? I’ll invite Diana and the three of us can enjoy a drink together,” Lacey insisted.
Reluctantly, Ellie agreed, “Fine, I’ll change and join you.”
By 8:00 PM in the private lounge of the Earl Hotel, Lacey’s fancy VIP room hosted three of them and six handsome young
men.
Lacey excitedly introduced the new arrivals to Ellie. “Aren’t they handsome? They’re all up–and–coming stars, top dancers and singers. I’ll have them keep you company later.”
Ellie vigorously shook her head, waving her hands in protest. “Lacey, really, I don’t need that.”
Diana stood up and ushered the men out, closing the door behind them. “Lacey, I told you to find handsome, rich, and well- mannered men. Why did you bring a bunch of male escorts in here?”
Lacey pouted awkwardly and laughed. “Don’t worry, I have plenty of guys in my contacts. I’ll call someone else right now.” Diana smiled. “I’ve already arranged a few. They’re all good, respectable men–handsome and charming.”
Ellie, speechless, could only watch them. On the third floor, Alex was listening to Barry’s report on the latest news concerning the Owens family. Suddenly, Layton burst in, pulling Alex out of his chair.

Alex shook off Layton’s grip. “Are you being chased?”
Layton, panicked, replied, “Lacey, Diana, and Ellie are in a room with a bunch of guys, and they’re partying.”
Alex spat out his wine in shock. Barry stood frozen, speechless.
