Ellie watched as Alex slowly walked toward her, her face cold and expressionless.
As he got closer, the mixed scent of alcohol on him made Ellie wrinkle her nose. She kept her face impassive, clearly annoyed. “It’s late. Why are you…”
Before Ellie could finish her sentence, Alex suddenly pulled her into his arms and held her tight.
“Just call me crazy.” Alex’s husky voice rumbled from above, and Ellie could feel his arms tightening around her.
With all her strength, Ellie struggled. “You can be as crazy as you want, but let me go!”
The more Ellie struggled, the tighter Alex held her. “I won’t.”
No matter how much Ellie tried to break free, Alex only hugged her harder, almost desperately. His hands gripped her tighter as if he wanted to swallow her up.
He buried his face in Ellie’s shoulder, smelling her hair. “Ellie, can you torture me in a different way? If you keep this up, I swear, I’ll go crazy.”
Ellie was sweating from struggling, so she just stopped. She let Alex hold her and said, “You think too highly of yourself. I don’t have the time or energy to torture you or get revenge. Let me go!”
“Not a chance!” Alex said. He tightened his grip. “If you’re not trying to get back at me, then why are you ignoring me?” Ellie found it funny. “Why would I even bother with you? After all the hurt you’ve caused me and my family and after you indirectly killed my dad, how can you stand in front of me and demand an explanation for why I’m ignoring you?”
Alex buried his head in Ellie’s shoulder, his voice muffled. “You can hate me, get revenge, or even punish me, but you can’t ignore me.”
Ellie shook her head. “Alex, you’re being unreasonable.”
Alex’s hand on Ellie’s lower back suddenly tightened, pulling her even closer. “I never said I was a reasonable person.”
Ellie was speechless. She had forgotten, in a moment of frustration, that this guy was never reasonable. She found that she had accidentally awakened the demon lurking in his heart again
“So everything you’ve said about compensation, regret, and apologies–it’s just for show, isn’t it?” Ellie’s voice grew colder. “Why are you holding me like this? What do you take me for?”
Ellie glared at him. “You think you can treat me the same way you did Haley, right? You think you can act intimately and I’ll just forgive you, huh?”
“You’re not like her.” Alex tightened his grip around Ellie, not letting a single inch of space remain between them. “I’ve done that to her, but I never slept with her.”
Ellie sneered, her anger boiling over. “What you did with her–or with anyone–has nothing to do with me. What exactly do you want from me?!”
Alex’s eyes darkened. “I’d rather do it with you.”
“You’re insane!” Ellie’s temper flared, and before she could think she bit down hard on Alex’s chest.

The sharp pain made Alex’s face contort, but he didn’t push Ellie away. Instead, he let her vent her anger. “Wanting to make up for what I’ve done is one thing, but wanting you–is a whole different story.” Fueled by alcohol, Alex was being crazier.
In the quiet, freezing night of the garden, Ellie’s mind was spinning from the tension. “You’ll never learn how to respect anyone, will you?”
Alex held Ellie tightly in his arms. “You can yell and hit me, or you can ask anything of me, but you can’t just ignore me!” He didn’t dare say the words he felt, only able to entangle with her in the craziest way.
Ellie was speechless. She didn’t say another word, just waiting for Alex to let her go. He was always a troublemaker, never reasonable. Now he was drunk and she didn’t want to waste any more breath on him.
After what felt like forever, Alex finally released her. Ellie raised her hand and slapped him across the face.
