Chapter 308
The commotion caused by Alex last night had completely ruined Ellie’s sleep. The next morning, she woke up, skipped breakfast, and went straight to work.
By noon, in the VIP ward of Jaslands Hospital, Alex pushed open the door. Todd looked up at him, his face dark with frustration. “Where were you last night? You didn’t pick up your phone.”
“My phone ran out of battery,” Alex mumbled as he avoided eye contact and walked over to Carlos‘ bedside.
“Alex, what happened to your head?” Nancy’gently pushed back the strands of hair from his forehead, her eyes wide with concern. “How did you get hurt?”
Alex quickly shifted his gaze, clearly avoiding the question. “I had too much to drink and bumped into something.”
Nancy wasn’t buying it. “What about your lips? Did they get bumped too?”
Alex lightly traced his lower lips with his finger.
Nancy folded her arms across her chest with a serious look on her face. “Alex, tell me the truth. Did you see Ellie?”
Alex lowered his gaze, hiding the emotions in his eyes. He parted his lips but remained silent.
Todd frowned and said sternly, “How
can you
still have the nerve to see Ellie?”
Nancy sighed, shaking her head. “Alex, you’ve already taken over the company, and you promised Carlos you’d settle down soon. I don’t care what feelings you have for Ellie, but you’re not allowed to bother her anymore!”
“I’m going to the nurse’s station to get a Band–Aid,” Alex muttered before walking out of the room.
Instead of going to the nurse’s station, Alex ended up at the plastic surgery department. He lingered outside Ellie’s office for a long time, gathering his thoughts. Just as he was about to knock the door swung open, and Ellie appeared, holding a potted cactus.
Alex instinctively stepped back. His mind raced, remembering what he did to her last night. Ellie’s expression immediately darkened when she saw him. “I warn you if you…”
“I was just passing by.” Alex quickly interrupted, rushing to explain, “I was drunk last night. I’m sorry.”
In the corridor, their eyes locked. Ellie noticed some colleagues passing by and casting curious glances her way. Not wanting to cause any unnecessary gossip, she turned and walked away.
Alex ran his tongue over his lower lips where Ellie had bitten him the night before and slowly followed her.
During the lunch break, in a quiet hallway, Ellie found herself face–to–face with Leonard at the fire escape Leonard’s tone was sincere and his gaze was unwavering. “I’ve thought about it carefully, but I still don’t want to give up.”
Ellie didn’t expect Leonard to be so determined, and his resolve was even stronger than last time. “Leonard, we’ve been classmates for years, and now we work at the same hospital. We can be friends, classmates, or even close colleagues, but we
can’t be lovers.”
Leonard didn’t back down. “Ellie, I’ve liked you since high school I was too shy to confess back then because so many guys were chasing you. When I went to study medicine in Jinerity, I chose that school because of you.”

Ellie’s eyes widened in shock.

Leonard continued, “In college, you turned me down, saying you didn’t want to date and wanted to focus on your studies, so I didn’t bother you. Now that we’re both working, and it’s the right time to settle down, I want to pursue you again.
“Of course, if you’ve found someone better, just forget what I said. I won’t bother you anymore.”
Ellie was left stunned. She had never imagined that Leonard had liked her since high school. Not only that, he had chosen to attend medical school in Jinerity just for her.
After being rejected in college, he had gone so far as to transfer to the same hospital where she worked.
Looking at Leonard, who was so nervous that he seemed to be holding his breath, Ellie finally spoke,
