Chapter 337
Layton plopped down in the chair across from Alex, pointing at the bandaged right hand.

Alex’s already dark expression tightened as he looked at Layton. Did the Mosley family go bankrupt? Why are you so free to hang around?”
Leaning back against the chair, Layton casually crossed his left leg over his right. “With a mouth like that, how come Ellie didn’t cut your tongue out?”
Alex took the utensils handed over by Evan, and gave Layton a fierce glare.
Layton said, “Alex, listen to me as a friend, don’t go
too
far.”
Layton continued, “Everyone has their limits. Since Ellie came back from interning in Jinerity, you know what kind of life she’s been through. Now her father is gone, and she’s discovered she can’t have kids. She’s set on ending things with you. If you keep pushing her, she might go mad.”
The atmosphere in the dining room was tense. Alex’s deep gaze fixed on Layton, dark and brooding.
“If today you’re forcing her to come at you with a scalpel, one day she could very well turn that scalpel on herself. By then, it’ll be too late for regrets.”

After Layton left, Alex dragged his tired body upstairs.
In Ellie’s former room, Alex stood quietly on the balcony.
He had a cigarette in his mouth but hadn’t lit it.
He looked down at the northwest corner of the garden, at the hole he had once blocked himself.
In his head, Layton’s words echoed, “If today you’re forcing her to come at you with a scalpel, one day she could very well turn that scalpel on herself. By then, it’ll be too late for regrets.”
He stood there from morning to afternoon, and from afternoon to night.
With his body numb, Alex took out his phone and opened Ellie’s chat window.
After a long hesitation, he sent Ellie a message.
Meanwhile, Ellie was at home cooking. When her phone lit up, she wiped her hands and checked the screen,
Seeing Alex’s message, she stood frozen for a moment.
He really had the audacity to ask her for a gift.
After a moment of contemplation, Ellie typed out a message and sent it. [What do you need?]
Alex responded almost instantly. [Anything from you, no matter what.]
Ellie: [I don’t have time to play games. Just tell me what you need.]

Chapter 337
Alex: [Then what do you think I lack?]
A few minutes later, Ellie gritted her teeth, stomped her foot, and decided to order Alex a big one online.
“What are you so focused on?”
Diana’s head suddenly popped over, almost making Ellie drop her phone into the pot.
Diana looked towards the living room and said, “I need to talk to Aaron. Where is he?”
Ellie pointed towards the small bedroom. “Aaron’s in his room.”
Before the words were fully spoken, Diana had already left the kitchen.
Aaron stayed in the original small study; even after clearing it out, it could barely fit a twin–size bed and a desk.
At the foot of the bed, there was a metal stand with just a few clothes hanging on it.
When Diana came in, Aaron was busy changing the sheets.
“Stop goofing around,” he reminded.
Sneaking up playfully behind Aaron, about to give him a bear hug, Diana froze when Aaron’s voice interrupted.

Diana pouted out of boredom and sat at the edge of Aaron’s bed. “Aaron, I have a party next week. Can you spare two hours to come with me?”
Aaron slipped the pillowcase over the pillow. “I’m busy.”
Diana sulked and pulled out the pillow Aaron just put in. “Come on! Isn’t it your weekend? How can you be too busy?”
Aaron quietly put the pillowcase back on and turned around to fold the clothes on the table.
Seeing Aaron ignoring her, Diana deliberately whined in a high–pitched voice.
“Aaron,” “Aaron, dear big brother.” “Brother.”
Aaron was speechless.
“Speak properly!” Aaron finally snapped, unable to handle her antics any longer.
