Not far away, Chris exchanged glances with Barry, finally understanding why Alex insisted on making a detour before heading abroad. They now knew who had the guts to give Alex a gift like that.

“Mr. Warren, the helicopter’s ready,” Chris said, gathering his courage to approach after half an hour.

“Let’s go,” Alex replied, turning to get into the car.

A few days later, it was the weekend. Ellie and Aaron were chilling at home.

As evening approached, Aaron said he had something urgent to take care of, so Ellie offered to drop Joanna off at work.

Joanna had a gig scheduled from 5 PM to 10 PM; it wasn’t too tiring, and she was loving it.

When they arrived at the bar, they found the staff entrance locked and two intimidating guys standing at the door. They decided to check the front entrance, only to find it locked as well with a couple of sketchy–looking people loitering around. Ellie’s heart sank with a bad feeling creeping in. She whipped out her phone to call Whitney, but no one picked up.

“Step aside, or I’ll call the cops!” Ellie shouted.

She approached the entrance but was immediately blocked by the two strange men. Ellie took out her phone.

One of the men made a call, and suddenly, the door cracked open.

“Mom, wait for me at the supermarket across the street. If I’m not out in five minutes, call the police,” Ellie urged, guiding Joanna across the street before steeling herself and stepping inside the bar alone.

The moment she entered, the overwhelming stench of alcohol hit her! Ellie’s eyes widened as she took in the wreckage- this place had been smashed to pieces! Behind the thirty–foot bar, every single bottle on the wall was shattered with not a drop left.

Not far away, a group of unidentified guys had surrounded a few on–duty staff members, and Ellie could see they were all hurt. As she moved closer, the scene escalated.

Suddenly, a man was thrown out from behind the stage with a loud thud–it was Zack, Whitney’s trusted right hand.

“Ms. Thompson, call the cops!” Zack yelled.

Ellie crouched by him, realizing his arms were brutally broken. Just as she reached for her phone to call for help, one of the men snatched it away from her.

“Mr. Warren left for an overseas trip a few days ago. Let’s see who can save you now!” Sergio strolled out from behind the stage, with Whitney being held back by two burly men.

Blood trickled from her lips, her cheeks were swollen–they’d beaten her up pretty badly. Thankfully, her outfit seemed untouched.

Ellie froze, horrified at the sight. Whitney stared back at her, equally shocked. “Ellie, you need to get out of here!”

“I made sure she got in here. How could I let her leave?” Sergio said, stepping closer.

He grabbed Ellie by the shoulder with a vice–like grip. “Don’t think Mr. Warren’s little scuffle with me will make me scared of you! I’ve heard people say you’ve been tossed aside by him long ago!”

Ellie shot back, “I already called the cops before I came in. You better let us go!”

Sergio sneered, “This is Jaslands, the turf of the four largest families. What if you called for help? Today, you’ll learn what happens when you cross me!”

Whitney didn’t flinch. “Sergio, even if I’ve left the York family, I still carry their name. You smashed up my place and hurt my people, and you can bet I’ll have my revenge. If you dare to touch Ellie, Mr. Warren will make sure you regret it!”

Sergio burst into manic laughter. “Who doesn’t know in the elite circle? You, Whitney, ran away from your engagement to chase a wild man, only to be dumped again! All these years in Jaslands, you must be starving for male attention, huh?

“Ellie is just a woman that Mr. Warren grew tired of. What’s the big deal? Once I take you all to my place, let’s see how tough you can act!”

Sergio ordered his men to bring the car around, ready to haul off Ellie and Whitney.

“Planning to take my people without my say–so?” Just as Ellie and Whitney were being forced toward the car, a deep male voice interrupted.

Ellie turned, following everyone’s gaze. A tall man in military uniform stood there, leisurely removing his white gloves. The four stars on his shoulder gleamed menacingly in the sunlight.
