Ellie walked into the hotel lobby and immediately spotted Alex, surrounded by a crowd of people.
He was dressed in a dark, casual suit, sporting a plain black shirt with the top three buttons undone. His towering height and strong presence made it nearly impossible to overlook him.
Ellie casually averted her gaze and pulled Diana over to join Lacey.
“Look, that’s my sister–in–law’s sister, Quinlee,” Diana said.
Ellie followed Diana’s line of sight to a slender woman in a long white evening gown.
From a distance, it was hard to see clearly, but with Diana, Ellie could spot Quinlee being flanked on either side by her sister–in–law, Winnie, and Mrs. Janssen. She must be quite treasured in their family.
“Whoa, you scared me! For a second, I thought I saw Haley!” Lacey exclaimed as she caught sight of Quinlee’s back, patting her chest in relief.
That casual comment made Ellie and Diana exchange a knowing glance. After all, at the border where the three kingdoms intersected, she had personally injected Haley with two shots. She’d even heard Alex had someone ruin her face.
Even though Haley had done many terrible things that played a part in her father’s death, Ellie longed for revenge. But she knew her hands couldn’t be stained with blood! Her brother was a prosecutor, and as his sister, she had to be cautious!
Her father was gone, and what good was her kindness now? Still, she had a brother and a mother to consider. They needed to survive; she couldn’t afford to be reckless! Giving Haley those two shots had been her limit!
“And how could Haley compare to my sister–in–law’s sister? She’s probably rotting in some gutter in Ameria!” Diana’s comment easily pulled Ellie back to reality.
“True that,” Lacey agreed.
Just then, Winnie led Quinlee toward them.
“I’d like to introduce my sister, Quinlee,” Winnie said, presenting her sister to the group.
As Ellie stood between Lacey and Diana, she caught Quinlee’s gaze. For a moment, her thoughts froze. Once she snapped out of it, she subtly stepped back,
Perhaps it was due to her thinness, but Quinlee’s features appeared sharper than her sister Winnie’s, and even with heavy makeup, Ellie could see the resemblance,
Dressed in a white formal gown but wearing dark blue contacts, Quinlee’s look seemed off, sending a wave of discomfort through Ellie.
“All of Ms. Grant’s friends are so beautiful. Can I be friends with them?” Quinlee asked, her voice soft and delicate. But to Ellie, it sounded like a haunting whisper, sending chills down her spine.
Ignoring her unease, Ellie politely clinked glasses with Quinlee.
As Quinlee raised her drink to her lips, her sleeve fell back, revealing a small patch on her arm. As a doctor, Ellie immediately recognized the injection marks!
“Quinlee, it looks like there’s something serious going on with your arm. You should ice it and check with a doctor,” Ellie said

She wanted to keep quiet, but Quinlee gave off such strange vibes that she couldn’t hold back. Yet, she managed to keep her tone measured.
Seeing Quinlee quickly pull her sleeve down to hide her arm, Ellie frowned.
“Thanks for the concern, Ellie. I’m just a bit weak and often take injections and meds. I’m used to it; it’s no big deal, Quinlee replied, linking her arm with Winnie’s. “Sis, Grandma’s waiting for us.”
“Hey, I don’t feel so well. Can I go rest for a bit?” Quinlee suddenly stopped just a few steps away.
After receiving a nod from Winnie, she hurried toward the elevator. She couldn’t believe she had let that Evan girl discover her injection marks!
But it was fine; she was Quinlee now! No matter how powerful these people were, they wouldn’t be able to connect her to her real identity as Haley!
Meanwhile, Ellie stood rooted in place, watching Quinlee’s figure fade away. Her gut told her something was off with Quinlee, but she couldn’t quite put her finger on it.
“Aaron, why does seeing this Quinlee make me think of Haley?” Ellie couldn’t help but voice her suspicions as she spotted Aaron approaching.
Aaron followed Ellie’s gaze and glanced over. “The Janssen family isn’t just anyone; they wouldn’t casually claim relatives. Don’t overthink it.”
“I did some digging,” Diana said as she approached, holding her dress. “Winnie’s younger sister went out to sea with friends when she was younger and had an accident. For years, everyone thought she had drowned. But last month, my sister–in- law’s parents went to that area to pay their respects and ran into this Quinlee on a smuggler’s boat.”
“I heard this Quinlee has amnesia and can’t remember anything from her past. Even after being brought back, she stubbornly refused to acknowledge her family. It took her parents over two months of pleading to finally get her home.”
“You guys
don’t know yet, but this Quinlee is actually engaged to Nathan from the Warren family! If neither of them had gotten into trouble back then, she would’ve been the real Mrs. Warren!” Diana spilled everything she knew, dragging Aaron
away.
So this Quinlee has an engagement with Nathan! But after being missing for so many years, it’s quite the coincidence that the Janssen couple found her on a smuggler’s boat.
A girl who was abducted and lost her memory, and now her wealthy parents want her back, yet she’s been rejecting them for over two months? Something doesn’t add up.
Ellie stood there, her mind momentarily in chaos as wild thoughts swirled uncontrollably.
Nearby, Layton noticed Alex staring intently at Ellie and couldn’t help but ask, “What’s up with Ellie?”
“She’s suspicious of this Quinlee appearing out of nowhere!” Alex replie

“Ellie went upstairs,” Layton said.
Hearing Layton’s reminder, Alex caught sight of Ellie just as she reached the stairs. After a brief hesitation, he stepped up to follow her.
As Ellie climbed to the second floor to deliver some sanitary pads to Lacey, her mind was racing with the information Diana had just shared about Quinlee.
Her intuition had always been spot on. Even if this Quinlee had nothing to do with Haley, she was definitely not someone to be underestimated.
Feeling uneasy as she turned the corner of the hallway, Ellie suddenly collided with a pair of deep blue eyes! She gasped, stumbling back several steps!
