Pressing a hand against her wildly beating heart, Ellie stared at the unexpectedly appearing Quinlee, her pulse racing.
“Miss Ellie, the restroom is to your left,” came that soft, eerie voice again!
Ellie clenched the sanitary pads in her hand and nodded, “Thanks.”
As she watched Quinlee walk away, Ellie suddenly called out, “Haley!”
“Where’s Haley?!” Diana rushed over in her high heels, looking flustered.
Quinlee paused in her steps, “Ellie, are you looking for someone? Do you need help?”

Caught off guard by those blue eyes framed by colored contacts, Ellie momentarily lost her words. She felt an intense sense that Quinlee’s beautiful blue irises held many secrets yet to be revealed!
“I told you, that Haley is probably hiding out in some ditch! People like her always get what’s coming to them; heaven will take care of her!” Diana said with disdain.
Diana exchanged a few words with Quinlee before tugging Ellie away. “Come on, Lacey’s been stuck in the bathroom!”
Once they turned to leave, Quinlee remained standing behind them. Her once–smiling face gradually turned cold, and a flash of malice flickered in her enchanting blue eyes.
Everything she did was what normal people would do; what was her mistake?! Even fate seemed to favor her, letting her live and giving her a new identity!
She was now Quinlee, the reborn daughter of the Janssen family, a child desperately sought after!
Her ‘sister‘ was the most favored young matron of the Grant family, while her current title was Nathan’s fiancée!
She had intentionally let the Janssen family catch wind of her while also pretending not to acknowledge the engagement, wanting them to agree not to force her into a paternity test!
Even if everyone doubted her, even if that pesky Ellie continued to poke and prod, the Janssen family wouldn’t dare push for a paternity test!
Clenching her hands tightly at her sides, her pupils slowly narrowed: Ellie, you wretched girl, from now on, I will be your nightmare!
Haley’s spiteful gaze shifted to Diana. Once upon a time, she had been Aaron’s first love. If only she hadn’t let go of that connection with that troublesome guy, Alex would never have abandoned her.

It was a little past nine, inside a hotel storage room. Nalani slapped Layton’s face twice, fuming, “You dog! Really can’t control yourself, can you?”

Layton pushed Nalani against the storage cabinet door, using one hand to lift her skirt, “If you hit me again, I swear I’ll take you right here!”
Before Layton could finish his sentence, someone knocked on the door. He quickly let Nalani go and adjusted her skirt.
“If you dare act up again, I’ll have you castrated!” Nalani kneed him in the hip, then stormed out.
Behind her, Layton was left fuming on one knee, clutching himself.
Grumbling, he managed to pull himself up against the wall, grimacing in pain, “Woman, just wait until I get my hands on you; I’ll make you regret this!”
Just then, a plump middle–aged woman waddled in, dragging a mop. Upon hearing Layton’s words, she blushed, biting her lip with a cheeky grin. “Sir, don’t underestimate me. I may look delicate, but I’m surprisingly strong!”
In the next instant, Layton scrambled out of the storage room like a startled cat. As he bolted through the hallway, he saw two people coming his way and quickly ducked into a corner until they passed by.
Once the coast was clear, he stepped out, rubbing painfully at his trousers before digging into a trash can and pulling something out.
Peering closely, he found a crumpled tissue with a few white powdery remnants. Lifting it to his nose, he wondered, “What in the world is this?”
Meanwhile, in the hotel lobby downstairs, Diana approached with a tray of fruit cocktails. “I heard these are homemade by the hotel owner. Let’s all have a taste!”
Lacey chimed in, “I can’t. Aunt Flo’s visiting me.”
Nalani shrugged, “This stuff is too weak for my taste. I prefer something stronger.”
In the end, only Ellie accepted a glass from Diana. The four girls chatted and snacked at the buffet, but it wasn’t long before Ellie started feeling unwell.
“I think I need to go lie down for a bit. You guys keep talking,” Ellie announced.
Diana stood up, feeling a bit under the weather too. “I’m coming with you. I need a shower anyway.”
“You girls feeling okay?” Lacey and Nalani walked them to the elevator.
“We’ll be fine. Just a quick rest and we’ll be back,” Ellie reassured them. She shouldn’t have downed that one fruity cocktail.
Tonight was the family reunion banquet for the Janssen family, and all the VIP guests had rooms reserved. As Ellie and Lacey exited the elevator and fumbled for their room card, they ran into Barry, who had just come down from another elevator.
Noticing Ellie seemed off, Barry stepped forward. “Ms. Thompson, do you need any help?”
After Ellie and Diana declined his offer, Barry moved on.
“How much have you both had to drink?” Layton approached from afar, glancing at Diana’s room card. “Diana, your room is to the left, just follow the hall all the way to the end.”
“Ellie, I’ll come find you later,” Diana said, feeling dizzy as she adjusted her gown before leaving.

Ellie stumbled slightly, feeling hot and sweaty. An inexplicable wave washed over her, causing her to emit a slight whimper. Staring at the room number, her vision blurred, and her heart raced. “8068.”
“8068?” Hearing her, Layton asked, and Ellie nodded.
“Your room’s upstairs. You’re in no condition to walk up alone; I’ll take you,” Layton offered.
Too exhausted to argue, Ellie allowed Layton to guide her.
In no time, they reached room 8068. Ellie shook her head, pinching her arm to regain focus. She carefully checked the card again, confirming the room number was right, and prepared to swipe in.
Just then, her phone buzzed. It was Aaron. “I have to step out for a bit. Lock the door and don’t wander around. Call me if you need anything or reach out to Winnie.”
“Don’t worry. I’m just heading to my room to rest. See you in the morning,” Ellie replied.
When she hung up, she noticed the door was already ajar. Without thinking much, she double–checked her card against the room number once more, greeted Layton, and then stepped inside, promptly locking the door behind her.
