It was ten in the morning when Diana arrived at the Thompson residence with her older brother, Patrick, and her sister–in- law, Winnie. Quinlee tagged along as well.
Haley, with Quinlee’s features, walked boldly into the Thompson residence, a bright smile on her face. But hidden in her sleeves, her hands were clenched tight, turning her knuckles white!
Things never went as planned! She barely survived and thought that becoming the second miss of the Janssen family would make it easy to stomp on that lowlife!
But who would have guessed that her uncle was a general? That worthless girl had somehow leaped into a prestigious family! A country girl living under someone else’s roof thinks she’s worthy of being among the elite? What a joke!
Haley sat calmly beside Winnie, maintaining her smile. The atmosphere in the large living room was heavy and tense.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t know there was something wrong with that fruit wine,” Diana said as she approached the drinks counter – looking for Aaron.
If only she hadn’t given Ellie that drink. If only she had held back a bit and not been so clingy with Aaron. Maybe then, Ellie wouldn’t have ended up in this situation!
“It’s not your fault,” Aaron said as she prepared tea and brought it to the living room.
“General Thompson, I’m really upset about what happened to Ms. Thompson in Jinerity. I feel so guilty and anxious,” Patrick said, lowering his posture. As a son–in–law of the Janssen family, it was his duty to help when things went wrong.
Winnie glanced at her husband and placed a bank card on the coffee table. “The person who drugged her was a hotel waiter. He has already been arrested by the police. According to him, a man at the banquet gave him a tip to drug Diana’s drink.”
“That man has also revealed the one behind this. The police are currently pursuing them. We had no idea this would affect Ms. Thompson so severely. We came here to offer her a little compensation,” she continued.
“It’s already happened. The harm is done, and no amount of compensation can change that for my niece,” Jason said from the main seat, his expression serious. “Let’s wait until my niece is in a better emotional state before discussing this further.”

After the Grant family left, Nalani returned with Lacey.
“Lacey, still can’t reach your brother?” Aaron asked, looking concerned.
Lacey replied, “My brother is still overseas and said he can’t come back for now. I asked him, and he said he dropped Ellie off at room 8068. He said if you don’t believe me, you can ask Ellie.”
Aaron frowned. But everyone was there at the time, and Alex’s room number was clearly 8689!
Whitney looked helplessly at her niece Nalani. “So, what do you think about this, Nalani?”
“With so many people ‘catching them in the act, and Mr. Warren shouting that it was his first time, how can they still get married?” Nalani said, then sat down on the couch, scrolling through her phone.
Lacey felt anxious and wanted to check on Ellie. “Come on, let me talk to Ellie for just a second!”

“Just give her some space for now. Let her calm down on her own. Miss Lacey, you can come back in a couple of days,” Aaron said after a brief hesitation, refusing the request.
The truest pain is often the one that can’t be spoken, and complaints are usually all that can be voiced. The suffering that can’t be shared is something Lacey’s sister must bear alone. She needed some personal space.
Ellie lay in her room for a full day and night. During that time, Aaron came in a few times, sitting quietly by her bed, just being there with her.
Her mom came in several times too, bringing her food. When Ellie couldn’t eat, her mom would take it back, secretly wiping her tears at the door.
Her aunt dropped by a few times too, and Ellie could hear her uncle and aunt chatting in the hallway, worried about her situation.
