She knew everyone was worried about her, and she understood she should pull herself together, but she just couldn’t muster the energy. She tried so hard to make sense of everything, but she just couldn’t figure out why this was happening!
She hadn’t felt well; her mind was a bit foggy, but she was absolutely sure she hadn’t mixed up the room number!
But the truth was, her room and Alex’s room weren’t even on the same floor–she had definitely walked into the wrong room! She had thrown herself right in front of Alex. Who was she supposed to blame for that?!
It was evening when Ellie’s mom, Joanna, came in with dinner. Ellie’s aunt, Whitney, and her brother, Aaron, followed right behind her. Ellie tried to sit up despite the discomfort that coursed through her body.
Leaning against the headboard, Ellie looked at her family, and the tears she thought had dried up began to well up again.
Whitney sat on the edge of the bed, sighing heavily. “Since everything has already happened, let’s think about what to do
next.”
Joanna wasn’t great at expressing her feelings. The love she had for her children was buried deep in her heart. “You need to eat a little to have the energy to get up,” she said as she placed a plate of spaghetti in front of Ellie.
Ellie wasn’t hungry, but seeing her mother’s hesitant smile and the way her lips trembled, she forced herself to take a few
bites.
“I’ll go wash some fruit for you,” Joanna said brightly, clearly relieved that Ellie was finally eating something.
“If you feel wronged, talk to your brother; it’ll help to get it off your chest,” Whitney suggested as she got up and left the
room.
Aaron sat on the edge of the bed and gently patted Ellie’s shoulder. With red eyes, Ellie leaned in closer.
“I really checked carefully! The room I went into was 8068, and Layton was there too! I seriously have no idea how it ended up like this!”
Overcome with emotion, Ellie broke down and cried in her brother Aaron’s arms. Her heart was heavy with grievance, but she couldn’t get a complete sentence out.
Aaron sat patiently on the bed, lightly patting Ellie’s shoulder to let her cry it out.
Even if they eventually caught that person, even if the truth came to light, it wouldn’t erase the harm this incident had done to his sister.
“Someone from the Warren family came by yesterday, but Uncle didn’t meet with them,” Aaron said thoughtfully. “You really should think about what you want to do about him.”
“He’s him, and I’m me. No matter what happens, I don’t want to be involved with him at all!” Ellie’s voice was muffled but unusually firm.

Barry continued, “About that night at the hotel–someone drugged Diana, and Ellie happened to be affected too.”
Barry added, “The waiter who delivered drinks that night confessed that he was called away by a client asking to borrow a lighter, and it has been confirmed that the customer who borrowed the lighter was Layton.”
